Location: Maine Township
Maine Township is seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Senior and Disability Advocate to assist residents with senior services, disability programs, and a wide range of social service resources. This position serves as a primary point of contact for individuals seeking guidance with public benefits, insurance programs, and community-based services. The ideal candidate will be organized, service-oriented, and committed to supporting the needs of township residents.
Responsibilities- Complete client intake procedures, interviews, and program documentation
- Provide information, referrals, and advocacy related to senior and disability services
- Maintain accurate records and follow-ups on resident requests and service needs
- Represent the Township at meetings and committees focused on senior and disability issues
- Assist residents with applications and documentation for Public Aid programs, and related programs
- Provide support for auxiliary programs including LIHEAP, Access to Care, Medicare plans, Benefit Access, QMB, and SHIP
- Assist residents with resources such as housing, transportation programs, living wills, nursing home assistance, Social Security Disability, and community awareness programs
- Maintain strong knowledge of local programs and community resources for referrals
- Support reception desk coverage during lunch hours and high-volume programs
- Participate in required trainings and perform additional duties as assigned
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with clients and coworkers
- Computer proficiency and comfort with office technology
- Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Human Services, or a related field required
- Experience working with seniors, individuals with disabilities, or public benefit programs preferred
- Bilingual skills are a plus
- Microsoft Word and Excel
- Office equipment including fax machines, scanners, and printers
- Certified SHIP Counselor – Training and certification provided
- Annual CEDA certification for LIHEAP and related programs required
- Ongoing training in Medicaid (IDHS), Social Security programs (SSA, SSDI, SSI), Medicare, and Veterans Administration resources
