SUMMARY

Assists in overall store loss prevention efforts including theft, cash handling and safety issues performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Greets customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Makes eye contact with arriving customers and offers in-store assistance.
  • Monitors electronic surveillance system and responds to observations when necessary.
  • Observes sales transactions at cash registers for accuracy and completion.
  • Observes customer behavior at and near cash registers concentrating on efforts to conceal merchandise.
  • Monitors load-out practices of furniture, hardware and floor covering merchandise.
  • Under guidance of management, detains customer(s) having been observed concealing merchandise and having gone beyond an exit opportunity to pay for the merchandise.
  • As directed by management, contacts and assists local law enforcement staff; provides courtroom testimony as needed.
  • Completes appropriate written and oral reports.
  • Conducts Safety inspections, identifies and reports safety hazards and takes immediate corrective action whenever possible. Conducts periodic exterior checks of trailer storage areas, parking lots, trash collection areas and exits for trespassers and potential hazards to property and persons.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of Loss Prevention measures on an ongoing basis.
  • Conducts random employee "Bag Checks" when employees leave the workplace in accordance with company policy.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED required; two year college degree or relevant experience in the retail, loss prevention or security field is preferred. Must be 21 years or older.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and write accurately, interpret documents such as training and instructional materials, safety rules, laws, and ordinances, written reports and company directives. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to communicate with a wide variety of customers and co-workers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to correctly evaluate problems involving losses of goods and or monies using a calm and common sense approach and within present company policies and current legal rulings. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
