As a key member of our Marketing and Innovation team, the Application Scientist and Lab Manager will oversee all aspects of the Flow Cam analytical laboratory. In this capacity, the Application Scientist will lead pre-sales sample analyses and instrument demonstrations for prospective customers. The Application Scientist will leverage their scientific experience to support the advancement of business opportunities and will work closely with internal teams to develop innovative Flow Cam solutions.

Key competencies include experience with biophysical characterization methods and analytical instrumentation, excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, exceptional communication skills, the ability to multitask and navigate changing priorities, and the ability to work cross-functionally with Sales, Software, Engineering, and Customer Service.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of the analytical laboratory, including supervision of lab staff.
  • Maintain laboratory best-practice protocols, staff training, and compliance.
  • Ensure laboratory instrument maintenance and quality control.
  • Develop and control laboratory inventory records.
  • Work with users and customer-facing teams to gather the voice of the customer.
  • Perform in-house and in-field sample analysis and product demonstrations.
  • Generate data-driven reports designed to convey key value propositions of Flow Cam specific to the customer's needs.
  • Provide expertise and scientific input to product development teams.
  • Create requirements and make recommendations for new product development and improvements.
  • Provide scientific data and help identify value propositions required to maximize current application opportunities as defined by Sales.
  • Supervises laboratory staff. May supervise other scientists involved in sample analysis and application development.
Experience and Technical Requirements:
  • 5-10 years' experience working in a commercial organization with customer-facing responsibilities
  • At least one year of previous supervisory experience
  • Hands-on expertise with biophysical characterization techniques and analytical instrumentation
  • An analytical mindset, excellent problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, prioritize, and multitask
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and desire to work with customers
  • Proficient with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office
  • Experience in commercially-driven environments, working with many different types of people and applications
  • Appreciation of—and passion for—what Flow Cam customers do
  • Desire to delight customers with products and business models that exceed expectations

Physical Requirements:

This position involves working in and moving around an office environment and analytical lab. It involves extensive use of a computer. This role involves constant communication with employees and business stakeholders. On occasion, work outside of regular business hours may be required.
