High School Art Teacher (Probationary)
Scarsdale High School is seeking talented, experienced, and innovative candidates for a probationary Art teaching position with a specialty in Photography and Video, starting August 26, 2026. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated expertise in general art education, with additional strengths in Photography, Video, and the ability to teach a broad range of high school visual arts courses.
The school spans grades 9-12, and offers a rich and varied educational program to the high-achieving student population of approximately 1500 students. The school community boasts an accomplished faculty and staff, along with an active, supportive parent body. Scarsdale High School focuses on creating a highly challenging, nurturing, and supportive intellectual environment. Candidates must hold appropriate NYS certification, and have a demonstrated ability to teach a range of high school Art courses, including, Photography, Video Production, and Digital Media.

Position Purpose
To develop students' interest, abilities, talents and skills for artistic expression and creativity in the visual arts, including general art, Photography, and Video, as well as aesthetic understanding and appreciation. This includes implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing lesson plans; modeling the necessary skills to perform assigned tasks; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Essential Functions
* Develops and administers art curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives, including general art, Photography, Video, and Digital Media.
* Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates them into effective learning experiences.
* Teaches high school courses, including general art, Photography, Video, and Digital Media.
* Provides instruction that develops aesthetic concepts, visual literacy, creative thinking, and technical skills across traditional and media-based art forms.
* Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and artistic growth; modifies instruction to meet individual student needs, including students with special needs.
* Demonstrates techniques in a variety of artistic and media practices, including photography and video production tools and software.
* Organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, critique and production time.
* Instructs students in proper care and safe use of art materials, cameras, equipment, and related technology.
* Evaluates student performance and growth and prepares progress reports.
* Plans and presents art exhibitions, screenings, and displays of student work for the school and the community.
* Maintains accurate records of student achievement, attendance, and grading in accordance with district procedures and applicable laws.
* Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with students and parents.
* Maintains classroom standards that support a positive and productive learning environment.
* Collaborates with colleagues and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
* Selects and requisitions appropriate art, photography, and video materials, equipment, and instructional resources; maintains inventory records.
Equipment
Use standard office equipment as well as art, photography, and video equipment, including computers, cameras, editing software, and related instructional technology.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Work Schedule
Standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the Teachers' Unit Contract.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of current art instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
* Knowledge of art curriculum and concepts.
* Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
* Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
* Ability to organize and coordinate work.
* Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
* Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
