Physical Education Teacher - Middle School (Probationary)

Scarsdale Middle School is seeking talented, experienced, and innovative candidates for a probationary Physical Education teaching position starting August 26, 2026. The school spans grades 6-8 and offers a rich and varied educational program to the high-achieving student population of approximately 1100 students. The school community boasts an accomplished faculty and staff, along with an active, supportive parent body. Scarsdale Middle School focuses on the developmental needs of early adolescents, and fosters a highly challenging, nurturing, and supportive intellectual environment.

Candidates must hold appropriate NYS certification in Physical Education (All Grades) and have a demonstrated ability to teach middle school students with a range of learning needs.

Position Purpose

An ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the NYS Learning Standards in Physical Education, be student-centered, demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, and develop good relationships with students, colleagues, and parents. Experience in teaching skills relevant to adventure activities, dance, personal performance activities, net/wall sports, team passing sports, and target sports is preferred.

Essential Functions

* Plan, organize, and implement engaging physical education lessons that align with the state and district standards.

* Promote physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship through a variety of activities, including team sports, individual exercises, and wellness education.

* Assess student progress and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.

* Foster a safe and inclusive environment that encourages active participation and personal growth.

* Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school administrators to support student success.

* Manage and maintain gym equipment, fields, and other facilities.

* Uphold school policies and promote positive behaviors.

Additional Duties

* Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Travel Requirements

* Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Qualifications

* Bachelors' Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)

* Valid NY State Teacher Certification in Physical Education

* Previous teaching experience at the high school level.

* Strong knowledge of physical fitness principles, and injury prevention techniques.

* Excellent communication and classroom management skills.

* A passion for promoting physical health and wellness in adolescents.
