The JCC Mid-Westchester (JCCMW) is seeking a Grant Accountant focused on our Toward Tomorrow Program, a state-funded special education preschool. This team member reports to the Senior Director of Finance. The Grant Accountant will work closely with the finance and Toward Tomorrow administrative teams in order to develop the financial strategy for the program, create the annual budgets, record and track accounting transactions, prepare mid-year and annual CFRs for the audits, track all expenses and revenue, and ensure funds are spent in optimal and effective ways to serve our children.
Ideally, this team member has experience in nonprofit finance and government grants, in particular state education funding.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all revenue and grant activities for the Toward Tomorrow program.
- Assist the Senior Director of Finance and Toward Tomorrow team in preparing annual budgets and track actual performance v budget throughout the year.
- Prepare data and provide relevant materials to prepare the initial draft of CFRs to of the Certified Financial Report ("CFR").in coordination with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with foundation and government grant guidelines and internal policies.
- Ensure thorough, accurate and timely financial information to support high quality, on-time reports and reimbursements. Manage timely and efficient schedules for tracking and reporting all revenue and expenses.
- Prepare account analyses for all material Balance Sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
- Track direct, indirect, and overhead spending throughout the year and identify options for greater financial efficiency. Provide projections and scenario planning periodically throughout the year.
- Maintain financial systems including Quickbooks, ADP, Excel, and Daxko.
- Oversee payroll for the Toward Tomorrow program including input from ADP reports into Quickbooks general ledger and track wages and benefits for audit purposes. Calculate total salaries by pay period. Track staff allocations and vacation payouts.
- Work with vendors and internal team to ensure all required invoices and purchase orders are paid promptly with adequate support and approval.
- Create Purchase Orders and utilize company credit card ("Divvy") to facilitate purchases.
- Reconcile Divvy credit card statement to Quickbooks.
- Collaborate with Westchester County to ensure payments are on time.
- Create project budgets and overhead projections for grant proposals.
- Generate financial reports required by government and foundation funding sources in compliance with grant agreements in a timely and methodical manner.
- Prepare ad hoc reports and work on special projects as necessary including accounting for spending on specific grants.
- Complete other duties as directed by the Senior Director of Finance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business-related field
- 3-5 years of accounting or financial analysis experience.
- Experience in nonprofit finance, grants management, and audits. Experience with NY State Education programs is a plus.
- Experience with accounting software, Quickbooks Online and ADP preferred
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets including pivot tables and vlookups.
- Ability to analyze financial data and proficiency in spreadsheet and database software applications.
- Structured professional with an eye for detail and excellent organizational skills
- Communicates in a clear and sophisticated manner

The physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include movement within an office environment. The role requires the ability to write by hand and use a keyboard to perform general office functions. Also requires the ability to communicate by speech and hearing continuously. Visual acuity is needed for detailed work, and computer use.
The ability to sit for extended periods of time is also a requirement. Involved in activities where one must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers and children accurately, loudly, or quickly. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly and use physical intervention or de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors and ensure a safe and accessible environment.
Salary:
$75,000 - $85,000
