Business Development Manager (Pharmaceutical and Medical Packaging)

This Business Development Manager leads new business and global customer account development, identifying profitable growth strategies through competitor and customer analysis and coordination with Sales, Operations, Product and Process Research and Manufacturing. All activities focus on growth opportunities and sustainable profitability. The position reports to the Global Head of Sales, Barrier Protection Systems.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and implement sales growth for the Pharma Delivery Systems business segment within the Barrier Protection Systems unit, including pricing analysis, contract negotiation and team direction.
- Target the Global Pharma account market segment and pharma company leaders.
- Establish a consistent process for developing, maintaining and delivering sales growth strategies that produce positive results.
- Proactively analyze competition, industry trends and landscape to chart the path forward.
- Develop proactive strategies to increase profitable growth in support of division and company objectives.
- Provide regular business updates to BPS leadership across all segments.
- Collaborate with other sales team account managers and project teams to gather critical information for strategic direction.
- Work with Finance leadership to identify and pursue profit‑optimization opportunities.
- Challenge and develop business models to maximize ROI.
- Create and develop a viable pipeline of new and enhanced products and applications.
- Aggressively manage development of "new" business opportunity pipeline.
- Networking ability and influencing skills.
- Strong business acumen and financial analysis skills.
- Ability to interpret financial data and apply financial tools.
- Expertise in analysis and project management for business planning.
- Change agent – identify linkages, communicate information and opportunities.
- Critical thinker – challenge accepted thinking and propose change.
- Creativity in generating new product/business ideas.
- Recommend alternatives and actions to maximize revenue and profitability.
- Up to 50% domestic and international travel.
- Pharmaceutical and medical packaging experience preferred.
- Direct sales, commercial and technical experience in line management, marketing and strategic roles.
- Undergraduate degree; MBA preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Over 7 years of success in outside sales within the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership and collaboration skills.
Salary: $140,000 to $160,000 DOE + Bonus.
