Munich Re Specialty Global Markets North America (MRSGM N.A.) invites applications for a full‑time Underwriter, Cyber & Tech. This hybrid role is based in Schaumburg, IL and reports to Steve Pacheco, VP, Head of Cyber. The position serves a national Cyber Insurance Underwriting team in the U.S. market, underwriting as a cover holder for Munich Re Lloyd’s syndicate. It delivers cross‑industry and sector solutions in Technology E&O, stand‑alone Cyber insurance, and risk mitigation to clients across North America.
Key Responsibilities- Underwrite a book of Tech E&O, Cyber, and related products in the U.S., including Technology Errors & Omissions and stand‑alone Cyber.
- Manage an existing renewal book and develop new business production and broker relationships.
- Maintain a broad network of brokerage and client relationships.
- Determine terms, conditions, and complex rating plans.
- Collaborate with team members on strategy for complex risks.
- Participate in industry events and networking opportunities to build relationships and enhance knowledge of the cyber insurance market.
- Service accounts throughout the policy cycle.
- Support current and future rating platform development with syndicate and actuarial resources.
- Interact closely with third‑party providers for service delivery, security monitoring, and tools.
- Analyze applications for cyber insurance coverage and evaluate risk exposure of potential clients.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and audits to determine eligibility and terms.
- Collaborate with brokers and agents to gather information and clarify requirements.
- Stay informed about trends, threats, and regulatory changes in cybersecurity to make informed underwriting decisions.
- Monitor and analyze claims data to identify trends and refine underwriting criteria.
- Minimum 3 years of professional lines/specialty insurance or risk‑management experience, ideally with Tech E&O and cyber risks.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or certifications strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of best practices in cyber security, including layered security architecture, internet protocols, firewalls, VPN technologies, anti‑virus and spam technologies, risk and vulnerability assessments, and compliance.
- Experience with threat‑awareness and detection tools, techniques, and incident response plans.
- Knowledge of relevant legal, regulatory, and privacy requirements such as PII protection, PCI DSS, CCPA, EU GDPR, GLBA, HIPAA, VPPA.
- Proven track record as a technical underwriter or broker.
- Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product knowledge in Tech E&O.
- Innovative thinker offering creative product ideas.
- Strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external partners.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong broker and client relationships and distribution channels.
- Entrepreneurial mindset.
- Willingness to travel.
Salary: $75,000 to $110,000 per year (Schaumburg, IL). Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
