Registered Nurse – CILA. Description

Under general supervision, provides quality general nursing care to persons served in compliance with DHS Rule 116, by performing the following duties:

  • Qualified to be or become a nurse trainer.
  • Ensures all Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are trained in Health and Safety component of the DSP Core Training program, medication administration and medication specific to each individual client and maintains appropriate records of all training.
  • Ensure, on at least an annual basis, that assessments are completed for each client’s physical and mental status and medical history.
  • Ensure, on at least an annual basis, evaluation of the client’s medication order and medication(s) prescribed.
  • Re-evaluate DSPs on at least an annual basis to ensure competency of the authorized DSP to administer medication.
  • Maintain clear documentation of training, retraining, and evaluation and submit appropriate records for each staff members file.
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate storage and disposal of medications, medication error reporting and quality assurance.
  • Ensure and provide support and guidance towards compliance with Administrative Requirements.
  • Ensure all PRN medications are administered per Rule 116 and appropriately included in each individuals Medical Administration Record (MAR).
  • Ensure compliance with Medication Self-Administration.
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of client.
  • Ensures procedures and treatments are explained to clients to gain cooperation and understanding and to allay apprehension.
  • Assesses patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
  • Ensures documentation of nursing history and physical assessment for assigned clients.
  • Assumes responsibilities of being on call for staff inquiries via phone call only.
  • Actively participates in the ISP process as well as the team that provides support to persons served.
  • Communicates and trains staff, as needed, to ensure clients and guardians understand medical conditions and/or procedures.
  • Monitors medication weekly to ensure accurate administration.
  • Participates in organizational meetings, as appropriate.
  • Adheres to St. Coletta organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Education and/or Experience

Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse as defined in the Illinois Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act 225 ILCS 65. Prefer one (1) year experience working with adults who have developmental disabilities.

Computer Skills

Knowledge of Internet and e-mail.

Maintain Illinois state Registered Nurse license.
