About the RoleThe Quality Control Specialist will play a critical role in supporting substation projects by overseeing and executing quality inspections during the fabrication of control houses for Next Era Energy initiatives in Ohio. This position is responsible for ensuring that all wiring, materials, installation practices, and construction standards meet strict utility‑grade requirements and client specifications, while identifying potential issues early and supporting successful project delivery.
The ideal candidate brings prior experience in utility environments such as Next Era Energy or Florida Power & Light (FPL), along with a strong understanding of substation Protection & Control (P&C) systems and quality inspection processes. This role requires close collaboration with engineering teams and fabrication partners to ensure compliance throughout the fabrication phase.
This is a travel‑based role, requiring the candidate to be located in or travel frequently to Ohio during the duration of the project.
Key Responsibilities- Perform quality control inspections of control houses fabricated for utility substations
- Verify wiring practices, panel assembly, and installation methods meet Next Era Energy standards
- Review drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams against field installations
- Ensure compliance with utility specifications, P&C standards, and safety requirements
- Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with fabrication teams
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and documentation for stakeholders
- Collaborate with NEEC engineering teams and Next Era project representatives
- Provide technical feedback during fabrication and pre‑shipment inspections
- Previous experience working with Next Era Energy or Florida Power & Light (FPL) strongly preferred
- Hands‑on experience with substation Protection & Control (P&C) systems
- Strong understanding of control house wiring, relay panels, and utility standards
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings
- Experience performing quality inspections or commissioning in utility environments
- Willingness to travel or temporarily reside in Ohio during project duration
- Former Next Era Energy / FPL employee or contractor
- Substation P&C technician or commissioning background
- Experience with control house fabrication or installation
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, relay panels, RTUs, and station communication systems
