Position: Mechanical Engineer - Cortland, New York

Job Summary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The role of the mechanical engineer involves designing integrated thermal systems for customer applications related to molten metal processing, heating designs, and metal transfer in various metal treatment industries. The engineer oversees and participates in projects from initiation through assembly, including on-site customer environments.

  • Accurately interpret client technical specifications and develop compliant proposals, offering suitable alternatives where appropriate.
  • Coordinate with Sales Engineers to align the proposal process with customer expectations and company product portfolio, development, and sales goals.
  • Lead proposal reviews and clarifications and facilitate project kick‑off meetings.
  • Serve in a technical sales capacity by presenting to key customers and communicating business development opportunities.
  • Provide post‑sales support to customers for drawings, solid models, and installations.
  • Continuously provide technical expertise and support related to manufacturing.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions as needed.
  • Develop quality & EHS documentation and take appropriate actions to ensure compliance.
  • Perform project management functions as required.
Qualifications

Education / Experience

Bachelor of Science in Engineering with three (3) years of mechanical engineering experience.

Prior project‑engineering experience leading solutions for furnace control in the hot‑metals industry is strongly preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Mechanical Engineering Skills. Working knowledge and proficiency in applying engineering science and technology to design and production of goods and services, including raw materials, production processes, quality control, cost management, and precision technical planning using design techniques, tools, and principles.

Computer / Application Skills. Proficient computer skills and ability to use software applications such as Microsoft Office, Visio, and 3‑D CAD systems. Ability to learn and utilize Autodesk Inventor.

Travel. Ability to travel by land and air, domestically and internationally, up to 20%. Valid US passport required or ability to obtain one.

Physical / Sensory Requirements. Must be able to sit and stand for long periods, bend, reach, use stairs, lift up to 25 pounds occasionally, and communicate effectively in English by telephone, in person, and in writing. Ability to use a personal computer, office equipment, and telephone.

Working Environment. While performing the essential responsibilities, the employee will mostly work in an office environment with occasional work in manufacturing areas with exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. Periodic exposure to the outdoor environment through open doors. PPE such as approved footwear, respirators, safety glasses/goggles is required.

The minimum and maximum salary range for this full‑time position is $72,000 – $108,000 per annum, plus benefits. Relocation benefits are not available for this role.
