Job Description & How to Apply Below
As an Electronics Hardware Engineer for GE Vernova Advanced Research, you will work with and support engineers in executing various power electronics related projects for GE Vernova applications. You need to be comfortable with designing and populating printed circuits, populating wiring enclosures, fabricating inductors, and designing fixtures for evaluation of power conversion systems. You will design and validate advanced embedded systems and power electronics hardware, working across FPGA, MCU, DSP platforms, as well as diverse types of power devices at wide range of power levels.
The role requires strong electrical engineering fundamentals, firsthand lab skills, and experience with high-speed board design.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
* Design and commission power and signal interface circuits and corresponding printed circuit boards (PCB) for controllers and instrumentations applied in power conversion systems.
* Perform schematic capture and PCB layout for complex embedded and power electronics boards.
* Procure, fabricate, and assemble electrical and mechanical components, subsystems, and complete system assembly of engineering prototypes for research programs.
* Design fixtures, electrical and electronic subsystems, instrumentation, data acquisition, mechanical and thermal subsystems, which facilitate the evaluation of electrical systems intended for a wide variety of applications.
* Perform signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC analysis for high-speed and mixed-signal designs.
* Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and systems teams for end-to-end hardware integration.
* Develop and implement test procedures for electrical systems and document performance characteristics.
* Troubleshoot and solve electrical and mechanical problems where objectives are clearly defined but course of action must be considered and determined.
* Be responsible for the maintenance of standard laboratory equipment and facilities including calibration of instruments and monitoring devices.
* Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines and compliance policies.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience after graduation, with a primary focus in technology applied to power electronics and/or embedded systems.
Desired Characteristics
* Experience in designing and commissioning electrical/electronic circuits and printed circuit board (PCB) layout applied in power conversion systems with considerations on signal fidelity, noise, EMI/EMS, and thermal management.
* Experience in the design of test fixtures, including electrical, thermal, mechanical, and instrumentation technologies. Proficiency with lab validation tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers).
* Strong written and oral communication skills, including documentation of test setup, major procedures, findings/results.
* Working knowledge of low, medium & high voltage electrical distribution
* Working knowledge of the electrical codes and standards that apply to large scale energy systems.
* Familiarity with:
* Software like:
* PCB Design:
Altium Designer, OrCAD, Cadence Allegro, KiCad, Mentor Graphics (Expedition, PADS)
* Simulation & Analysis: LTspice, PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS SIwave, Keysight ADS, Hyper Lynx, PLECS
* FPGA/Embedded:
