Protection & Controls Engineer

We are seeking a consultant to support a short-term high voltage protection project for one of our clients in the EPC space. The client’s in-house team is completing electrical studies, and you will take that data and program it into the protective relays. The initial engagement is expected to last 2–4 weeks, with the possibility of extension if additional work comes through.

• Fully remote
• US-based candidates only

Responsibilities

• Review short-circuit, coordination and arc flash study outputs provided by the client
• Apply calculated settings into protective relay configurations using relevant manufacturer software (e.g., SEL AcSELerator, GE Ener Vista, ABB PCM
  600)
• Validate relay settings against protection schemes and coordination requirements
• Document relay settings for client review and compliance purposes
• Liaise with the client’s engineering team to clarify data and resolve issues
• Prepare relay configuration files and associated documentation for delivery

A typical day might include reviewing study data in the morning, programming and testing relay settings mid-morning, holding a quick progress call with the client’s team around midday, finalizing and documenting configurations in the afternoon, and providing an end-of-day update to the project manager.

Ideal background

• Proven expertise in protective relay settings and programming
• Familiarity with one or more major relay manufacturers’ software
• Ability to work from study data with minimal oversight
• Strong documentation skills and attention to detail
• Experience with protection scheme design is a plus, but not essential
