Job Description & How to Apply Below
Consulting Services, a part of GE Vernova, has offices in multiple countries and offers global clients (external & GE Vernova verticals) a wide range of solutions across the entire spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization.
Consulting Services at GE Vernova is a team that has comprehensive global experience in power system studies including in-depth experience in analyzing shunt and series compensations including application of SVCs, FACTS, HVDC, synchronous condensers, STATCOMs, and power plant and transmission system dynamic controls.
Our global team has extensive professional experience with leading power system simulation and analysis software tools such as PSLF, PSS/E, Power Factory, PSCAD, EMTP, ASPEN, ETAP, other commercial application tools, and many specialized in-house tools.
Our team also has deep experience with voltage control and reactive planning issues as well as the tools and procedures that are most effective in studying them. We perform detailed steady state, voltage and transient stability studies of regional transmission systems, generation interconnections, and renewable generation impacts, as well as specialized studies for sub- synchronous resonance, and torsional and control interactions.
Job Description
Role Summary/Purpose
As a member of the Consulting Services Grid Integration and Stability (GIS) practice area, the selected candidate will be an active contributor to the GE Vernova business initiatives related to power systems and power electronics equipment and services to support energy transition.
Essential Responsibilities
* Perform technical analysis related to power electronic and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, large industrial drives and FACTS.
* Support customers with power systems engineering expertise; including modeling, analysis, equipment design and specification, and failure mode analysis
* Create, modify and parametrize simulation models representing GE Vernova inverter-based resource (I ) products like wind turbines, solar and battery storage.
* Evaluate grid code compliance standards and their impact on renewable energy projects in bulk power systems.
* Support development of transmission and distribution connected I and distributed energy resource (DER) products for evolving codes and standards through participation in industry standards groups and leading innovative approaches to power system analysis.
* Perform power system transient studies, and detailed equipment modeling using appropriate software tools.
* Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing detailed written reports and presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions
* Enhance industry knowledge and present technical content in regional forums and conferences; serve as a thought leader in industry activities.
* Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are valued.
* Willingness to travel for supporting project work, meeting team members, attending industry standard working group meetings and conferences (up to 10%).
Minimum Requirements
* Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, electric power engineering, or related field of study - no industry experience is required with this qualification OR Master's degree in electrical engineering or electric power engineering with 3 years of experience.
* Minimum three (3) years of experience performing transient analysis using simulation tools like PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP, PSS/E, Power Factory or PSLF.
* Minimum three (3) years of experience with the use and application of common programming languages (e.g. Python, MATLAB, FORTRAN).
Preferred Requirements
* Solid understanding of inverter-based resources (control system) design and application considerations.
* Strong background in power system analysis.
* Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE Vernova and customer/plant staff).
* Experience with steady state and dynamic analysis using large data base simulation tools like PSS/E, Power Factory, PSLF and use of programming languages like C, C++.
* Experience in creating and modifying dynamic user models in simulation tools like PSS/E, Power Factory and PSLF.
* Experience in creating and modifying dynamic models for use in simulation tools like ATP/EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP-RV.
* Advanced experience in electromagnetic transient simulation tools like PSCAD/EMTDC,EMTP (e.g. FORTRAN programming of user-written models in PSCAD ("black box" models) and in EMTP, use of Python/MATLAB scripting to automate execution and analysis of multiple simulations).
* Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering to real-world electric power system problems.
* Industry reputation, IEEE/CIGRE published articles related to practical power systems engineering topics, participation in industry…
