Senior Roboticist
As a Senior Roboticist, you will join a multi-disciplinary research team developing and maturing advanced robotic solutions for manufacturing and field services across GE Vernova. You will be designing and building robotic systems. In this role, you may define system architectures, design electrical systems and circuits, integrate sensors and actuators, and develop controls and capabilities to deliver robust automation for inspection, field services, material handling, and other mission-critical processes.
This senior role combines hands-on system development with technical leadership, research, and collaboration with internal businesses and government partners.
- Research & Development:
Develop high-impact technology concepts focused on robotic system design, advanced controls, and perception for field service automation and inspection. - Technical Leadership:
Lead and contribute to the architecture, design, and development of electrical and robotic systems, including sensor/actuator integration and controller commissioning. - Strategic Engagement:
Engage with internal and external thought leaders to drive robotic solutions that impact GE Vernova products (e.g., gas turbines, electric machines, wind turbines) and serve as a Principal Investigator for multi-disciplinary projects. - Program Execution:
Lead teams through technical reviews, risk mitigation, and IP strategy development to maintain awareness of disruptive trends in robotics.
- Education:
PhD in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline) with 5+ years of professional experience, or MS with 7+ years of experience in robotics/controls system design. - Technical Expertise:
Demonstrated experience in at least three of the following:- Robotic Systems:
Architecture, design, and implementation of complex robotic platforms. - Electrical Design:
Circuit design and implementation, including thermal and mechanical constraints. - Controls & Actuation:
Electrical actuation, control theory, and optimization technologies. - Industrial Automation: PLC programming, industrial safety standards, and hardware/software integration.
- Development Tools:
Proficiency in ROS/ROS 2, MATLAB/Simulink, or industrial robot controllers (e.g., FANUC, ABB).
- Robotic Systems:
- Execution:
Strong track record of leading projects and delivering hardware/software integrations - Compliance:
- Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor employees at the Master's level for work visas, now or in the future, for this position opening.
- Must be 18 years or older; must be willing to undergo a drug test and background investigation.
- Must be willing to work on-site in Niskayuna, NY and travel as business needs require.
- Export Control:
Candidates must not be nationals of countries subject to comprehensive U.S. export restrictions unless holding "U.S. person" status. - You must submit your application via the Careers page at to be considered.
- Strategic Leadership:
Ability to convert high-level customer needs into technical development strategies and lead multi-partner projects. - Innovation:
Demonstrated ability to transition innovative concepts from the laboratory to prototypes and successfully deployed field solutions. - Communication:
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral English to technical and executive audiences. - Self-Driven:
Innovative, willing to pursue new technical areas (e.g., ML-enabled control, digital twins), and capable of working independently.
NOTE:
Higher and lower level positions may also be available. Applicants qualified for other position levels may be considered for roles aligned with their level of experience.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
