Skilled Labor (Construction) – Foreman / Lead Carpenter

This role leads commercial construction projects as a working foreman and lead carpenter, overseeing crews while performing hands-on carpentry work. You construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures on a wide variety of commercial projects, ensuring high-quality workmanship, adherence to safety standards, and on-time completion. Typical projects include schools, municipal and state office buildings, mixed-use commercial spaces, offices, gas stations, fast food restaurants, and commercial upfits, generally ranging from $3–10 million in size.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a crew of carpenters and laborers throughout the duration of each project, ensuring daily tasks are clearly assigned and completed efficiently.
  • Perform project layout and job site layout to establish reference points, dimensions, and construction details in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements, materials, and construction methods.
  • Measure, cut, and install metal framing, drywall, exterior metal framing, exterior sheathing, and related materials using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Install structures and fixtures including drywall, framing, doors, windows, frames, flooring, trim, and other finish carpentry elements.
  • Perform drywall finishing and punch list work to bring projects to completion with a high level of quality and detail.
  • Inspect existing structures, framework, and fixtures, and repair or replace damaged components as needed.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other construction professionals, trades, and site personnel to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure all work complies with local building codes, safety regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and job site areas in safe, clean, and good working condition.
  • Monitor crew performance, provide guidance and direction, and promote safe work practices on site.
  • Use a tape measure accurately and consistently to ensure precise measurements and quality installations.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience in commercial construction or residential remodel construction as a project foreman or lead carpenter.
  • Proven experience as a carpenter in commercial construction environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a crew of carpenters and laborers over the full duration of projects.
  • Ability to perform project layout and job site layout accurately.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in using basic and advanced hand and power tools for framing, drywall, and finish carpentry.
  • Experience with metal framing, drywall construction, drywall finishing, and exterior metal framing and sheathing.
  • Competence in finish carpentry, including installation of doors, windows, frames, trim, and flooring.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
  • Strong understanding of carpentry techniques, construction methods, and commercial building practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills in a construction setting.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor in a field environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with crews and other trades.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from job sites.
  • OSHA 10 certification.

  • Experience completing punch lists and delivering projects to final completion standards.
  • Ability to assign daily tasks, monitor progress, and adjust work plans to meet deadlines.
  • Journey worker-level experience is highly valued and may be required for higher pay consideration, supported by references that can verify work history.
  • Familiarity with commercial building codes and inspection processes.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities on active job sites.
