Position Type:
Part Time
Pay: $10.00 and up per hour based on experience.
The Gymnastics Instructor supports the Y’s mission by providing high‑quality instruction and guidance to children, teens, and adults. The instructor teaches safe, fun, and inclusive gymnastics classes, builds community, and assists with membership development.
Essential Functions- Lead energizing, safe, and educational gymnastics classes.
- Provide appropriate supervision at all times.
- Create bespoke lesson plans that promote skill progression appropriate to participant age and ability.
- Build authentic relationships with participants and parents, encouraging community connection.
- Model welcoming, motivating, and affirming behaviors.
- Help participants feel confident and celebrated in progress.
- Communicate progress to parents/guardians.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and roster accuracy.
- Complete daily equipment checks and cleaning tasks.
- Maintain required certifications, complete mandatory training, and attend staff meetings and special events.
- Promote YMCA programs and support campaign initiatives.
- Accept additional assignments as appropriate.
- Minimum age 15.
- At least 12 months experience in gymnastics training; prior teaching experience preferred.
- Must obtain CPR/AED, First Aid, and New Leader Orientation certifications within 30 days of hire.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to relate and communicate effectively with diverse groups.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and documents.
- Passion for learning, working with youth/families, and gymnastics.
- Visual, auditory, and verbal communication ability.
- High level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
- Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform duties.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand, walk, or sit for extended periods; occasional stoop/bend.
- Neat and professional appearance at all times.
- Ability to perform tasks such as bending, leaning, kneeling, walking, and responding quickly in emergencies.
