Position Title: Set‑Up Operator
Wage: $20.00 - $23.00/hour
Shift: 1st
Hours: 6:00am - 4:30pm
QPS Employment Group is hiring a Setup Operator for a metal stamping and fabrication company in Schiller Park, IL. In this hands‑on role, you'll set up, align, adjust, diagnose, and maintain a variety of equipment, including riveters, hardware insertion machines, and tapping and welding equipment. Set‑Up Operator Responsibilities:- Clean, assemble, install and align tools, fixtures and dies in appropriate equipment according to work instructions and specific set‑up requirements.
- Set up machines and stage appropriate subcomponents for the operation.
- Set and fill applicable lube systems.
- Ensure accuracy of the lubrication in use versus specifications.
- Assist in set‑up changes, as applicable.
- Observe machine operation and perform limited dimensional inspection to detect defects or equipment malfunction.
- Initiate troubleshooting and resolve production performance problems.
- Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance duties.
- Perform first‑piece evaluation prior to formal submission to Quality Assurance.
- Report set‑up and labor data to maintain accurate and timely records.
- Participate in continuous improvement of the Secondary Operations department with suggestions for quick change, material and parts flow, safety suggestions, die sensing, etc.
- Create and document set‑up instructions for new and/or revised processes.
- Participate in work center readiness audits and verify receipt and proper documentation of all required approvals in advance of beginning production job orders.
- High School Diploma or equivalent with three years of maintenance or related experience; vocational training or apprenticeship completion desired.
- Strong mechanical abilities and problem‑solving skills, sufficient to perform machine set‑up activities, under conditions of tight deadlines.
- Able to lift up to 40lbs.
- Strong attention to detail and relentless toward safety.
- General knowledge of various types of metal fabrication and welding equipment.
- Able to use precision measuring instruments.
- Able to read and interpret blueprints.
- Basic knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) concepts and ISO/TS16949 quality standards.
- Able to work under minimal supervision.
- Good math skills with ability to calculate and comprehend necessary math concepts.
- Able to complete required paperwork through basic reading and writing skills.
- Flexible and willing to adjust job schedule given customer and production schedule demands.
- Proficient in operation of industrial power lift trucks.
