JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), under the direction of a Licensed Practitioner, Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides basic nursing care and assists with activities of daily living to a designated group of healthcare consumers. In addition, creates an organized work environment that is conducive to efficient workflow for the clinical staff. Provides services which encompass the spiritual, physiological, social, and psychological aspects of care of the sick, prevention of disease, or conservation of health.

Key Job Responsibilities
- Participate in the nursing process under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Practitioner, RN or LPN: assess, plan, implement, and evaluate. The nursing process is an ongoing process that can end at any stage.
- Assessment – Contribute to the assessment of the health status of the healthcare consumer.
- Plan – Contribute to the plan of care through observation, data collection, and communication of findings to the appropriate member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Implement – Provide basic patient care activities based on the plan of care and as delegated.
- Evaluate – Contribute to the evaluation of the healthcare consumer by observing responses to interventions and communicating findings to the appropriate member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Document cares provided in the healthcare consumer’s record.
- Demonstrate personal and professional responsibility for ongoing development, practice, and education. Maintain a safe work environment and foster a collaborative environment in support of the nursing profession.
- Perform clerical functions, including but not limited to filing, maintaining patient logs, generating reports, records, and scheduling patient appointments.
- Set priorities for response and communicate with appropriate personnel.
- Respond appropriately in emergency situations as support for clinical staff.
- Active certification as a Nurse Assistant on the Nebraska and/or Iowa Nurse Aide Registry, depending on the state of work.
- Basic Life Support is required upon hire.
- Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications – American Heart Association:
Basic Life Support. - Skilled Nursing Facility Only:
Must have successfully completed the 75‑hour state approved course for Nursing Assistant if hired into the Nursing Assistant position after April 30, 1998.

- Knowledge of current Certified Nursing Assistant scope of practice, critical thinking skills, professional verbal and written communication skills, technical/computer skills, attention to detail, customer service skills, adaptability, and maintain confidentiality.
