CT Tech 1 – Job Description

The CT Tech 1 arranges patients for Computed Tomography examinations, produces CT images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems, prevents patient exposure to unnecessary radiation, ensures patient safety by using pre‑established imaging protocols, screens patients for safe administration of contrast media, utilizes departmental policy to safely operate equipment and perform all job functions, and provides complete pre‑ and post‑education to patients and families.

Initially, the position may require instruction and guidance to accomplish the job and should develop into performing work under general supervision.

• Clinical skills:
  Perform diagnostic examinations with the appropriate technique and position for optimal image quality, as demonstrated by exam results.
• Adhere to radiologic principles, theory, anatomy, and pathology in all examinations.
• Follow departmental policies and protocols to optimize examinations for interpretation.
• Teach sound radiography principles to radiography students, as required by the organization, evidenced by documentation.
• Effectively communicate with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent, assisting the physician in optimizing performance and interpretation.
• Explain procedures to patients/families and address questions to ease anxiety and ensure cooperation.
• Assist the physician in performing examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and sterile technique.
• Identify and resolve clinical or emergent problems that may interfere with exams, producing desired outcomes.
• Demonstrate patient safety by using side rails, braking mechanisms, and patient monitoring.
• Report, document, and correct any adverse, unsafe, or unusual conditions.
• Show understanding of IVs, heparin locks, and central line usage related to CT, evidenced by observations by supervisors and peers.
• Maintain an orderly, safe, and clean environment, stocking necessary supplies.
• Operate imaging and related equipment per manufacturer specifications; perform daily calibration and adjustments, as evidenced by exam results.
• Troubleshoot equipment effectively, report problems to biomedical engineering/vendor, and document via service reports.
• Recognize and perform routine maintenance of all CT equipment to maintain image quality, evidenced by physician and exam results.
• Identify patients correctly and track them through departmental procedures, correcting errors immediately, as evidenced by RIS reports.
• Participate in department/hospital performance improvement initiatives, in‑services, and meetings, as evidenced by attendance records.
• Act as a backup for other technologists in the department as needed.
• Complete additional duties within specified time frames, as required by managers/supervisors.

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program.
• Good interpersonal/human relations skills; good oral/written communication skills; good teamwork skills; good critical thinking/decision‑making skills; superior organizational skills.
• License & Cert - Current State License, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT (R) or Registry‑eligible or current temporary license.
• BLS‑HCP.
