Description

OVERVIEW:

The Program Manager leads and oversees all camp programs at Camp Redwood Glen and supports youth programming across the Golden State Division. This includes summer camp, outdoor adventure programs, guest activities, and leadership development. The role ensures all programs are safe, mission-focused, age-appropriate, and delivered with excellence. Working under the direction of the DYCS and in partnership with the Camp Director and Divisional leadership, the Program Manager helps achieve camp and youth ministry goals.

This position requires living on-site to support camp operations and programming.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Summer Camp Program Development

  • Plan, lead, and evaluate summer camp programs with the Divisional Youth Department
  • Create and deliver Christ-centered curriculum that promotes whole-person growth through hands-on learning
  • Manage program operations, including staff and camper schedules and post-camp follow-up with local Corps and camp staff
  • Lead the growth and implementation of the Outdoor Adventure Camp program and its curriculum, staffing, and training systems
  • Summer Staff Leadership and Development
    • Assist the Camp Director and DYS with summer staffing plans, salary reviews, and seasonal budget preparation
    • Lead staff orientation and development while promoting professionalism, spiritual growth, and teamwork

Seasonal and Year-Round Programming

  • Adventure Program Oversight
    • Oversee adventure programs, including ropes courses, waterfront activities, archery, climbing, backpacking, and other outdoor experiences
    • Recruit, train, certify, supervise, and evaluate seasonal and part-time adventure staff
    • Manage adventure equipment, inspections, maintenance, staff training, and safety and risk management practices
  • Guest Group and Weekend Programming
    • Develop and oversee programs for guest groups and weekend retreats, including team-building, recreation, and adventure activities
    • Train staff and coordinate with Guest Services and the Camp Director to deliver high-quality, mission-focused guest experiences and schedules
  • Teen Leadership and Gap Year Programming
    • Oversee the recruitment, selection, supervision, and development of Sojourn and Sequoia participants
    • Lead leadership and discipleship programs through training, mentorship, Corps engagement, and program improvement
    • Prepare program evaluations, participant assessments, and year-end reports with recommendations for improvement
  • Collaboration and Divisional Support
    • Partner with the Youth Department and Camp Director to implement summer camp strategy and support divisional youth programs and discipleship initiatives
    • Provide guidance and resources to Corps officers to ensure camp and discipleship programs align with The Salvation Army’s mission and divisional goals
  • Operations, Safety, and Compliance
    • Maintain ACA accreditation and ensure compliance with safety, policy, and risk management standards
    • Serve as an on-call manager and after-hours contact, and assist with emergency response and incident management
  • Administration and Communication
    • Assist with program budget management and maintain program schedules, reports, evaluations, and related documentation
    • Communicate effectively with staff, guests, divisional leadership, community partners, and other stakeholders
    • Support program promotion and growth through marketing efforts, trend analysis, and recommendations for program and facility improvements
