All products are designed and built at our facilities in beautiful Scotts Valley, CA.Position Summary The Staff Component Engineer manages the selection, qualification, and lifecycle of electronic, electrical, and mechanical components used across DDI’s embedded control systems.

The role centers on ensuring long-term component availability, reliability, compliance, and sustainability throughout the product lifecycle.

Working closely with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers, this position supports new designs, maintains continuity for existing products, and ensures all components meet performance, reliability, and compliance expectations.

Key Responsibilities Manage component selection, qualification, and approval for new and existing designs

Monitor lifecycle status and identify obsolescence risks early

Develop mitigation plans for end-of-life components and qualify alternates

Collaborate with Supply Chain to resolve shortages, allocations, and sourcing challenges

Work directly with suppliers to obtain technical data, lifecycle information, and qualification documentation

Provide technical guidance during design reviews and NPI activities

Maintain component libraries, AVL, and engineering databases

Support failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective actions for component-related issues

Ensure compliance with RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals, and customer requirements

Support ECOs involving component substitutions or updates

Maintain accurate BOMs, approved manufacturer lists, and engineering documentation

Identify cost reduction opportunities while maintaining reliability and performance

Contribute to continuous improvement of component engineering processes and standards

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field5+ years of experience in Component Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, or related discipline

Experience managing component lifecycle, obsolescence, and supplier relationships

Knowledge of electronic, electrical, and electromechanical components

Experience with BOM management, ECO processes, and PLM or ERP systems

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality teams

Experience in semiconductor equipment, industrial automation, or other high-reliability systems is a plus
