Position Information- Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Department: Special Education
- Education Level and Certification: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education; must possess a Nebraska Teaching Certificate with Visual Impairment Endorsement as required by NDE Rule 10.
- Reports To: Director of Special Education or Designee
- Terms of Employment: 185 days up to 191 days with summer services included / Schedule 4
- FLSA Status: Exempt.
- Position Type: Full-Time
- Regular, dependable attendance.
- Perform identified responsibilities and tasks.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with various stakeholders.
- Engage active listening and problem‑solving skills.
- Manage own time and the time of others, as requested.
- Effectively communicate through both oral and written means.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and family information as required by NDE Rule 51 and Rule 52 and FERPA.
- Provide direct instruction and consultation/collaboration for blind or visually impaired students as identified by the IFSP/IEP/504 plan.
- Perform assessments to qualify, gather data, and develop programming and instruction in functional vision, learning media, and expanded core curriculum.
- Develop and implement goals and objectives for student IFSP/IEPs.
- Monitor student IFSP/IEP progress and collect data to determine attainment.
- Document student progress and provide reports as required.
- Participate in student 504, IFSP, IEP and MDT team meetings.
- Coordinate and collaborate with teachers, families, and related service providers regarding student needs.
- Prepare and adapt classroom materials for instructional use.
- Maintain proficiency in teaching, adapting, and preparing braille instruction including software and hardware.
- Obtain and utilize knowledge of assistive technology devices and instruction.
- Participate in professional development activities related to duties and goals.
- Participate in training and fidelity measurements as required by the NE Dept of Education.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
- Inside heated/air‑conditioned classrooms.
- Regular travel required with clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
The essential functions include regular, dependable in‑person attendance; the ability to perform identified tasks; and the ability to perform specified physical requirements.
