RN (PRN/On-Call) – Western Nebraska Veterans' Home, Scottsbluff (Evergreen)

Salary: $37.389 per hour base rate, plus $3/hr differential for each hour worked and shift differentials ranging from $1.50 to $2.50 per hour.
Position SummaryOn‑call/PRN as needed, with a minimum of 32 hours per month (minimum 16 hours on weekends). Working under limited supervision of a Nursing Director/Associate or Nurse Supervisor, the RN provides professional nursing care for residents, offers clinical direction and guidance to Licensed Practical Nurses and direct care staff, and delivers direct patient nursing care within the scope of licensure.
Responsibilities- Direct, coordinate, monitor, and/or provide patient care activities and nursing care delivery by licensed professional nursing and direct care staff.
- Train nursing or direct care staff in nursing standards and techniques to maintain quality patient care.
- Assist in the orientation of newly hired nurses.
- Make patient rounds, closely monitor patient condition, assess health status, and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
- Administer medications and/or supervise medication administration by licensed or certified staff.
- Evaluate and report patient symptoms, progress, and reactions to medications.
- Consult with physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other treatment staff to communicate necessary information for quality care.
- Write reports on patient progress and medication use; initiate and complete patient‑focused actions per the plan of care.
- Ensure patient records are current, transcribe physician orders, and record medication administration.
- Assist in evaluating patient progress as part of the interdisciplinary team and revise nursing care plans as needed.
- Serve as a Nurse Supervisor or Nursing Director/Associate in their absence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current registered nursing license in Nebraska or authority via the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice in Nebraska.
- Knowledge of nursing theory and practice, accepted standards of care, policies and procedures governing nursing care, sanitation and infection control standards, techniques for providing quality care, charting standards, medications, and Nebraska nursing scope of practice regulations.
- Skill in coordinating and providing nursing care.
- Ability to observe changes in patient medical condition and communicate these changes effectively, consult with clinical specialists, instruct others in patient care, maintain accurate medical records, write periodic reports, communicate effectively with medical professionals and other facility staff, follow oral and written instructions, maintain a helpful and empathetic attitude toward patients, participate in interdisciplinary teams, and exercise sound professional nursing judgment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and push/pull up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis; frequently bend at the waist and neck, twist at the waist, and walk or stand up to 50% of the shift.
