Job Summary
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – PRN/On‑Call – Western Nebraska Veterans' Home, Scottsbluff, NE. Hourly rate $26.906 + $3/hr differential per hour worked, plus shift differentials $1.00–$1.75. Minimum of 32 hours per month, at least 16 hours on weekends.
Responsibilities- Provide nursing care for ill, injured, or disabled persons residing at the Western Nebraska Veterans' Home under the direction of a Registered Nurse or other eligible licensed practitioner.
- Perform related work as assigned.
- Observe, evaluate, and chart patients’ behaviors, symptoms, reactions to medications, diet, environment, and needs.
- Prepare and administer therapies and/or treatments such as rehabilitation activities, dressing wounds, or other skin or breathing treatments.
- Administer medications, chart time given and amounts on patient records; recognize potential and actual adverse reactions and respond appropriately.
- Assist or collaborate with Registered Nurses, unit manager, or team leader in developing nursing care plans; assist in implementing care plans.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to provide input into patient care planning.
- Interpret care and treatment plans and communicate approaches to other personnel.
- Review charting, evaluate, and report patient care to appropriate personnel.
- May act as assistant to charge nurse when necessary.
- Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice in Nebraska.
- Knowledge of licensed practical nursing theory and practice, patient care and treatments, medication administration procedures, and medical equipment and supplies.
- Ability to evaluate nursing needs, exercise competent judgment, assess patient behaviors, symptoms, and medication effects, plan and monitor direct care staff, apply proper body mechanics for heavy lifting, communicate effectively, interact positively with others, adapt to changing demands, follow oral and written instructions in exact detail, prepare and maintain records and reports, and maintain a helpful and sympathetic attitude toward patients.
