Position: RN Full-Time Night Shift - Western Nebraska Veterans' Home Scottsbluff

Job Summary

Title: Registered Nurse – Full‑Time Night Shift

Location: Scottsbluff, NE

Pay: $37.389–$49.895 per hour; plus $3 per hour differential for every hour worked and shift differentials of $1.50–$2.50

Schedule: Full‑time, 10:00 PM–06:30 AM, 8‑hour shift, set schedule, work every other weekend (first weekend working)

Responsibilities

Under limited supervision of a Nursing Director/Associate or Nurse Supervisor, this role provides professional nursing care for ill, injured, or disabled persons residing in the Western Nebraska Veterans' Home. The RN directs, coordinates, monitors, and provides patient care activities and the delivery of nursing care by licensed professional nursing and direct care staff.

  • Train nursing or direct care staff in appropriate nursing care standards and techniques.
  • Assist in the orientation of newly hired nurses.
  • Make patient rounds; closely monitor patient condition; assess health status and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Administer medications or supervise medication administration by licensed or certified staff.
  • Evaluate and report patient symptoms, progress, and reactions to medications.
  • Consult with physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other treatment staff members to communicate necessary information for quality patient care.
  • Write reports on patient progress and medication use; initiate and complete patient‑focused actions necessary to accomplish the goals defined in the plan of care.
  • Ensure patient records are current; transcribe physician orders and record medications.
  • Assist in evaluating patient progress as part of the interdisciplinary team; participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team; develop, implement, evaluate, and revise nursing care plans and communicate any changes.
  • May serve as Nurse Supervisor or Nursing Director/Associate in their absence.
Minimum Qualifications

A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a registered nurse in Nebraska.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of:
  • Nursing theory and practice
  • Accepted standards of care
  • Policies and procedures governing nursing care
  • Sanitation and infection control standards, policies, and procedures
  • Techniques of providing quality nursing care
  • Standards for charting medical records
  • Current medications, their uses and reactions
  • Nebraska regulations pertaining to nursing scope of practice
Skills:
  • Coordinating and providing nursing care
  • Observing changes in the medical condition of patients and effectively communicating these changes to other nursing staff members and physicians
  • Consulting with clinical specialists
  • Instructing others in patient care
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and writing periodic reports
  • Communicating effectively with medical professionals, direct care staff members, and other facility staff members
  • Following oral and written instructions in exact detail
  • Maintaining a helpful and empathetic attitude toward patients
  • Participating on an interdisciplinary team
  • Utilizing sound and effective professional nursing judgment
Ability to:
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs on a daily basis
  • Bending frequently at the waist and neck
  • Twisting frequently at the waist and walking or standing up to 50% of the shift
