Position SummaryWe are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Buyer to join our Purchasing team. This position is responsible for supporting the procurement of materials, products, and services required to meet production and operational needs. The Buyer will work closely with suppliers and internal departments to ensure materials are purchased at competitive prices, delivered on time, and meet required specifications. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, comfortable working with data, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This candidate can be based in our Portland, TN or Scottsboro, AL locations and will need to travel to either location.
- Purchase materials, products, and services based on production and operational requirements.
- Issue and maintain purchase orders and verify pricing, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding pricing, availability, lead times, order status, and delivery schedules.
- Monitor open purchase orders and proactively address potential shortages or late deliveries.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotes and assist with cost comparisons and sourcing decisions.
- Work with suppliers to resolve pricing, quality, quantity, and delivery discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier information.
- Analyze purchasing data, pricing, usage, and other information using Microsoft Excel.
- Work closely with Production, Inventory, Accounting, Estimating, and other departments to support company requirements.
- Assist with inventory management and material planning as needed.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with existing and potential suppliers.
- Support supplier performance evaluations and sourcing initiatives.
- Assist with additional purchasing and supply chain projects as assigned.
Required
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional internal teams.
- Comfortable working with numbers, pricing, and large amounts of data.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field.
- Previous purchasing, procurement, supply chain, inventory, accounting, or manufacturing experience.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ERP/MRP or purchasing systems.
- Experience with supplier negotiations and cost analysis.
The successful candidate will be proactive, dependable, and willing to take ownership of their responsibilities. This position requires someone who can recognize potential problems before they affect production, communicate effectively with suppliers and internal teams, and use data to make sound purchasing decisions.
