# CWP Unit Leader

AZ Education Level High School## Description The Unit Leader works under the direction of camp leadership and is responsible for creating a  positive camping experience for the campers in their care. They supervise Unit Counselor(s) and  ensure the delivery of high-quality Girl Scout programming at Camp Whispering Pines. Unit  Leaders live and work in a communal outdoor environment, with most time spent outside at  camp on Mount Lemmon.

Please note:

our camp is located at a high elevation in rugged terrain;  the ability to successfully live at altitude and navigate this environment is required.  RESPONSIBILITIES  
• Supervise a camp unit consisting of ten to thirty youth and assigned unit staff under the  guidance of the Camp Directors.  
• Model professionalism at all times; including using camp resources wisely, being timely,  and maintaining quality communication with camp staff, caregivers, and especially  campers.  
• Plan, coordinate, and implement Girl Scout programming with a focus on personal  growth and nurturing a love of the outdoors. Ensure all programming is developmentally  appropriate and engaging for your unit.  
• Be prepared to adjust and adapt schedule or plans quickly to meet the needs of campers.  
• Treat all campers, staff, and stakeholders with fairness and equity regardless of  circumstances, background, or ability.  
• Mentor and support staff and/or interns placed in Unit, including providing constructive  and relevant feedback. Maintain communication with Directors regarding staff progress  and areas of concern.  
• Ensure health, safety, and well-being standards are maintained; oversee unit  housekeeping, sanitation, supplies, and equipment.

• Maintain unit records and required camp documentation regarding campers and assigned  unit staff.  
• Coordinate and participate in all-camp activities, including overnight needs and camp  operations when campers are not present, as needed.  
• Attend all required trainings and meetings (on-site and off-site as necessary).  
• Perform all duties in accordance with the Council’s Safety and Risk Management Plan.  
• Prioritize the safety and well-being of campers, coworkers, and self in all activities.  
• Engage in a culture of learning and growth by giving and receiving feedback respectfully.  
• Perform additional duties as needed to best serve the mission of Girl Scouts of Southern  Arizona.## Qualifications Minimum age 18; prior experience working with children or youth programs required.  
• Previous camp experience (as staff, counselor, or participant) strongly preferred.  
• Must embrace that this is a summer position, with staff living on property at Camp  Whispering Pines; this is not a traditional work week but a full summer work experience.  
• Ability to live and work in a high-elevation, outdoor, communal environment for the  summer season.  
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to work  collaboratively.  
• Enthusiasm for working with children and supporting the Girl Scout mission.  
• Commitment to creating inclusive, safe, and empowering experiences for campers.  
• Ability to model and uphold health and safety standards consistently.  Jan 2026  
• Must pass a criminal background check and be or become CPR/First Aid certified prior to  camp.  
• Willingness to engage in training, professional development, and ongoing feedback.  
• Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds occasionally  
• Ability to successfully pass a Background Check and/or obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Care  
• Ability to arrange timely transportation to work locations at set times. If driving, proof of meeting  Arizona State requirements regarding auto licensing, driver’s license, and liability insurance, if  applicable.  
• Flexible and able to problem solve and self-direct  
• Capable of working under pressure and handling multiple demands/heavy volume  
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable.
