Job SummaryThe Structural Project Engineer will assist SAM Development & Construction teams with planning and day‑to‑day execution of construction projects. The role is the link between office management, field activities, accounting, and project administration. Responsibilities include pre‑construction design review, drafting and processing RFI, reviewing submittals, construction inspections, QC/QA in the field, maintaining safety initiatives, and coordinating timely material delivery.
Duties / Responsibilities- Review concrete and structural steel drawings to ensure they meet project standards, building codes, and safety standards.
- Propose design modifications when necessary.
- Coordinate concrete and structural design with the construction team.
- Perform field inspections to ensure quality assurance of design. Monitor, measure, inspect and report scope on work put into place in the field.
- Pre‑construction process as owner‑builder representative.
- Participate in all aspects of the procurement process for assigned projects, including outreach to trade partners to promote project opportunities and generate interest in increasing bid package coverage, supplier and subcontractor selection, and buyout process.
- Participate in OAC meetings and prepare and distribute timely and accurate meeting minutes.
- Assist the construction team in managing, processing and tracking of submittals, RFI’s, and project schedule.
- Lead the document control process:
Distribute electronic and paper plans, review and approve shop drawings and submittals, specifications, drawings, permits, etc. to appropriate parties and maintain the drawing revision logs. - Comply with all SAM safety policies and wear proper safety equipment at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- EIT Certification while working under direct supervision of licensed PE (will not be responsible for stamping plans).
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Preferred prior experience in the construction industry is desired; multifamily construction or luxury home projects preferred.
- Minimum 2‑5 years concrete and structural steel design or construction experience.
- Field inspection experience.
- Proficient with technologies and applications used in business and on construction sites, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Projects, SharePoint, Outlook), and other current software including Auto Desk (AutoCAD/Revit, BIM
360), Primavera, Green Halo, Egnyte, Enercalc, Blue Beam, Procore, etc. - OSHA 30‑Hour Construction required or ability to obtain.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Must be willing to participate in the Company’s pre‑employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation.
- Ability to utilize SAM Construction applications on a smart phone, tablet or laptop.
- Must be experienced and able to read, understand and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, estimating, and project schedules for constructability and conflict reviews specific to multifamily construction.
- Strong working knowledge of the local multifamily and residential construction industry and subcontractors.
- Demonstrated organizational and problem‑solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needs.
- Understanding building permit, approval and inspection processes.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent communication and partnering skills to work effectively with subcontractors, consultants, internal staff, and regulatory agencies.
