Definition:
Under general supervision of the High School Administrator, plans, research, and provides basic education instruction to adults and youth seeking to obtain a GED. Prepares and provides educational instruction, assessments, and evaluations for required GED subject areas in order to prepare students to obtain their GED diploma. Coordinates and schedules classroom or individual instruction catered to meet the specific learning requirements of the student.

Job Duties
Student Enrollment and Assessment:
Enrolls and assesses literacy level of youth and adults interested in participating in the GED Literacy Program.
* Assists youth and adults interested in obtaining their GED or referred by TANF, the Court, ECEC, or Corrections with enrollment in the GED Literacy Program.
* Schedules and conduct assessment tests to determine specific grade level for student's classroom placement and curriculum requirement.
* Creates and maintains confidential files on all students to document their enrollment, attendance, type of curriculum, and progress toward completing their GED until completion.
* Develop individual education plans for students catered to their learning style and assessment placement results.
* Research and determines specific instructional software to use to complement and strengthen student curriculum to more effectively serve students' learning styles.
* Assists with recruiting/encouraging Community members without a high school diploma to sign for the program.
* Tailors' classroom or one on one instruction to accommodate students with learning disabilities.
* Continually seeks ways to improve student learning and motivate them to succeed in meeting their education goals.
Classroom Instruction:
Provides classroom and individualized teaching instruction using a variety of teaching methods to help students with learning/retaining GED subject material.
* Develops and maintains GED course curriculums and lesson plans in core subject areas of reading, writing, math, social studies and science for Pre-Literacy up to GED 12th grade levels.
* Coordinates and schedules classroom and individualized teaching sessions during time frames that best meets the needs of the students and maximize participation in the program.
* Prepares and presents information in a clear manner utilizing appropriate teaching techniques as well as effective visual aids to optimize learning.
* Adapts classroom and individual teaching style to increase student learning through cooperative, computer based, video and internet, and one on one teaching methods.
* Administers regular GED practice tests to students to determine students' readiness for the GED exam and provides feedback to students regarding results.
* Monitors and ensures that classrooms are safe, orderly, and conducive to learning.
* Monitors student progress and implement timely intervention methods for struggling students.
* Creates and maintains ample supply of classroom materials and study handouts for all GED teaching locations.
* Supervises and assigns tutoring and other work assignments to tutors and WEX workers.
GED Program Administration:
Tracks and maintains records on all students' enrollment and keep all referral department and agencies informed on student progress.
* Documents and maintain attendance records on all students and enter information into the Power School database daily.
* Prepares and maintains weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual status reports on student enrollment and progress.
* Enters and maintains test assessment scores in appropriate database for all enrolled students.
* Provides student record of attendance and progress reports for students referred from departments, DOC, TANF, WIA, Court, ECEC, etc. as required.
* Establishes and maintains consistent process for communicating with referral agencies and departments with students in the GED program to better serve the clients and ensure accountability.
* Prepares and distributes student progress reports to students' supervisors, Probation Officers, and referring Case Managers as needed.
* Conducts monthly reviews of student progress with Case Manager from WIA and TANF as required.
Classroom Instruction in Corrections:
Procedures and processes to follow when assigned to teach GED students in the SRPMIC Corrections Facility.
* Coordinates and obtains training from DOC staff on proper security procedures and escort requirements prior to teaching in the facility.
* Reviews and complies with required DOC policies and procedures regarding security, surveillance, contraband, etc. at all times while teaching at the facility.
