Job DescriptionTitle: Instructional Assistant/Special Needs
Employment: Non‑Interim, 9 months, 6.50 hrs/day, Grade 16, $16.99/hr, Dates: 08/03/2026 – 05/27/2027

Requirement: High school diploma or GED
Purpose Statement: To support the instructional program by supervising, caring for and instructing special needs students in various classroom settings, implementing individualized plans, monitoring behavior, and providing information to school personnel.
This position reports to the Teacher and/or Site Administrator.
Essential Functions- Adapt classroom activities, assignments, or materials under teacher direction to reinforce objectives.
- Administer tests, homework, and make‑up work to support teachers.
- Assist medically fragile, physically disabled, or developmentally delayed students with personal hygiene and immediate healthcare needs.
- Attend meetings and in‑service presentations (e.g., first aid, CPR) to acquire related knowledge.
- Communicate with supervising staff, support personnel, and parents to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
- Escort students to/from destinations to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Implement behavioral plans under teacher supervision for students with behavior disorders.
- Intervene in potential conflicts using appropriate physical or therapeutic approaches.
- Document instructional materials and records to maintain availability and meet requirements.
- Model appropriate social behavior for conversation, manners, cleaning, listening, and job skills.
- Monitor students’ daily schedule and behavior plan for safety and positivity.
- Supervise students in various school environments (rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus zones, cafeteria, parking lots).
- Perform general clerical functions (copying, filing, data entry).
- Provide instruction under teacher supervision in academic, social, daily living, and job skill activities to reinforce objectives and IEP plans.
- Remain with students to ensure safety, remove them when necessary, and de‑escalate situations outside class.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
QualificationsSkills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Adhere to safety practices; operate office equipment and software; prepare and maintain accurate records.
- Basic math, reading manuals, writing documents, and presenting information; understand complex instructions.
- Schedule activities, collate data, and use basic job‑related equipment; work with diverse individuals; problem‑solve and create action plans.
- Adapt to changing priorities, communicate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, work as part of a team, handle interruptions, and maintain a positive rapport.
Responsibility: Work under direct supervision using standardized procedures, guide others, and use resources from other units as required.
Work Environment: Significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. 10% sitting, 60% walking, 30% standing.
Experience: Job related experience is desired.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
