Substitute Teacher

THIS IS A TEMPORARY/ON-CALL SUBSTITUTE TEACHER POSITION

Primary job functions include meeting and instructing assigned classes, implementing lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher, creating a conducive learning environment, taking attendance, serving as a positive role model, ensuring students are never left unattended, maintaining a neat and orderly classroom, understanding disciplinary procedures, and performing related duties.

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
• Implements the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
• Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.
• Serves as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism that includes a positive attitude, positive and respectful communication, and professional appearance.
• Ensures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom.
• Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.
• Understands procedures for referring students with disciplinary problems.
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Must have a current Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card, Arizona Department of Education Substitute Teacher Certificate and/or valid Arizona Teaching Certificate. Prior teaching or instructional experience is preferred.

Must pass a pre‑employment drug test and extensive fingerprint and background check. Subject to random drug testing and required to complete a background check every five years.

Daily rate of pay:

• 1st Year Substitutes with a Substitute Teacher Certification only, $125/day
• Experienced Substitutes with Substitute Teacher Certifications only, $130/day
• Substitutes with Full Arizona Teaching Certification, $140/day

Incentives:

• For every 30 days worked, Substitute Teachers will receive an additional day of pay at their regular pay rate.
• Long‑term substitutes will earn an additional $15/day after their 20th day.

This position does not require driving. However, if the incumbent drives an SRPMIC vehicle, authorization is required.
