Position SummaryThe Museum Educator is a key member of the Public Learning Programs Department, which leads all programs and activities for students, teachers, youth, family and adult audiences at Taliesin West. This department helps visitors of all ages engage with art, design, and nature through hands‑on activities and project-based learning. Reporting to the Public Learning Programs Manager, the Museum Educator is responsible for delivering high‑quality educational experiences for families, youth, k-12 students, and teachers.
They will follow a pre‑written curriculum and teach and/or co‑teach field trips. These lessons are based on the work and legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright, and our curriculum includes history, art, engineering, and architecture content.
The Museum Educator reports to the Youth & Family Programs Manager and works closely with the Youth & Family Programs team.
The Museum Educator role is full‑time position with availability to work up to 40 hours a week and occasional Saturdays as required, depending on programmatic needs. The rate of pay is $17.50/hour.
The ideal candidate for this role will bring a spirit of flexibility and possess skills in teaching, informal education, formal education, and/or childcare. They will be able to think several steps ahead and at times, independently see what must be done to prepare and lead an educational activity.
The successful candidate thinks on their feet and learns autonomously, to effectively comprehend and teach pre‑written lesson/program plans.
Essential Functions- Teach and/or co‑teach alongside another Museum Educator, programs for k-12 students, youth, and families.
- Assist in the refinement and adaptation of lesson and program plans for k-12 students, youth, and families.
- Assist with set‑up and tear down of educational programs and activities in various locations across the Taliesin West property.
- Communicate clear safety rules and maintain control of the group to ensure guests’ safety and minimize potential damage to our historic property.
- Follow departmental policies and procedures, understand the Employee Handbook, and communicate emergency situations to manager and/or supervisor in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate excellent oral communication and presentation skills with a guest‑centric focus and effectively present information and respond to questions.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, volunteers, and all members of the public.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience in teaching youth audiences; bachelor’s degree in Education preferred.
- Background in Education, Museum Studies, History, Art History, Engineering, or Architecture.
- Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 3 hours without rest.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to comfortably work with youth, family, and educator audiences.
