Job Description & How to Apply Below
  • On-site position at Alpha Schools in Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (flexible scheduling within school operating hours)

If catching a distracted 10-year-old's attention before they derail the rest of the group is where you excel, this role may fit. This isn't a position where "assistant" means staying in the background until intervention becomes necessary.

Alpha operates a compressed K-12 model: minute-by-minute scheduling, faster pacing than traditional classrooms, and organized around a Guide dedicated exclusively to instruction. This structure depends on someone managing the operational foundation — timely transitions, lesson materials prepared in advance, and student focus maintained before minor issues elevate into major disruptions.

You'll be fully engaged from day one. There is no gradual onboarding phase. You will monitor classroom dynamics, implement Alpha's established motivational strategies (structured prompts, positive reinforcement, immediate redirection), and prepare each activity so the Guide begins instruction without delay. When you perform effectively, a student losing focus is re-engaged before the lesson loses momentum. The standards are specific: materials ready ahead of every lesson, 95% of transitions completed on time, consistent student engagement.

As you develop fluency in Alpha's approach, your responsibilities expand. Assistants who demonstrate mastery of the operational framework assume greater classroom accountability — and for candidates with the right aptitude, the progression to Guide is straightforward.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Managing student transitions between activities (approximately 30% of your day): tracking time, cueing students to move, and applying positive reinforcement to maintain orderly, punctual movement
  • Setting up classroom materials ahead of each lesson by collecting supplies, arranging them according to the activity plan, and verifying the setup aligns with the Guide's specifications before teaching begins
  • Supporting student engagement during structured activities (approximately 40% of your day) by observing participation levels, detecting disengagement in its early stages, and redirecting students through Alpha-approved classroom management methods without disrupting instruction
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Waiting in the background for problems to emerge — this role demands continuous presence and in-the-moment judgment throughout school hours
  • Creating lesson plans, developing activity frameworks, or holding responsibility for academic results (those fall to the Guide)
  • Developing your own methods for student behavior;
    Alpha's motivational strategies are established and you will implement them uniformly
  • Handling facility maintenance, carpool coordination, or after-hours programming; your focus is classroom operations during instructional time
