Join Our Team as a Civil Designer at Water Works Engineers! Meet Water Works Engineers:

Water Works Engineers (WWE) is a leading civil and environmental engineering firm specializing in innovative and sustainable solutions for water infrastructure projects across the United States. For over 20 years, we have excelled in planning, designing, and implementing projects involving the treatment, storage, and conveyance of drinking water, recycled water, and wastewater. With offices in Scottsdale, AZ;
Redding, Roseville, San Mateo, San Diego, and Los Angeles, CA;
Star, ;
Albuquerque, NM; and Salt Lake City, UT, we bring an understanding and sensitivity to Western water and wastewater issues. Our expertise includes water and wastewater treatment, stormwater management, hydraulic modeling, and environmental compliance. Committed to innovation, integrity, and teamwork, we enhance the sustainability and resilience of the communities we serve.

Why this role matters:

As a Civil Designer at Water Works Engineers, you play a critical role in transforming complex engineering concepts into clear, accurate, and buildable plans that shape essential water infrastructure. Your work directly supports the development and refinement of advanced civil engineering designs for impactful municipal projects, helping ensure communities have reliable water, wastewater, and recycled water systems. Working closely with senior engineers and project managers, you will take on meaningful design responsibilities and contribute to key project milestones.

Your expertise in AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and Revit will drive the production of high-quality, comprehensive design documents that align with company standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations. This role is more than drafting—it's about understanding the “why” behind the design. By applying civil, structural, and mechanical design principles, you will help solve real-world infrastructure challenges while collaborating within interdisciplinary teams.

As you grow, you'll have the opportunity to expand your responsibilities, strengthen your technical leadership, and play an increasingly influential role in advancing innovative and sustainable design initiatives across our projects.

Your daily impact:
  • Develop complex architectural, structural, and mechanical design models and drawings, leveraging AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and Revit for tasks such as advanced structural steel detailing, reinforced concrete components, pipe networks, and water/wastewater equipment systems.
  • Produce detailed design plans and schedules from conceptual sketches, criteria, and engineering inputs while ensuring adherence to company, client, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers and senior designers to incorporate design feedback, verify accuracy, and ensure integration across disciplines.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing updates and technical insight into design progress and coordination requirements.
  • Use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for communication, documentation, and supporting deliverable preparation.
  • Stay current with evolving design tools, technologies, and best practices to strengthen design capabilities and contribute to overall project success.
What you bring to the table:
  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Design, or related discipline, or equivalent civil‑specific experience.
  • 5–10 years of experience working with AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and Revit, demonstrating the ability to support civil, structural, and mechanical design tasks across multiple project types. (Exposure to Micro Station is a plus.)
  • Knowledge of architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, site, and environmental design practices.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate comprehensive design plans while ensuring alignment with project requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proactive in learning new techniques and approaches, focusing on continuous improvement in design practices.
