At Axon, we’re on a mission to protect life. The Sustaining Products team works to maintain the quality, performance, and reliability of Axon’s existing product portfolio throughout its lifecycle. As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will own the engineering health of fielded products—driving continuous improvement, resolving field failures, managing product change orders, and supporting manufacturing quality for life‑saving technology deployed worldwide.

Your work directly impacts the reliability of products in the hands of first responders every day.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action (CAPA) processes for field failures and customer‑reported issues
  • Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and product revisions to improve reliability, reduce cost, or address manufacturing defects
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve production issues and implement process improvements
  • Perform detailed mechanical analysis—including FEA, tolerance analysis, and failure analysis—to identify and resolve design deficiencies
  • Own sustaining design changes from investigation through validation and production release
  • Support NPI‑to‑sustaining transitions and ensure robust handoffs for new products entering the sustaining phase
  • Interface regularly with domestic and international manufacturing partners and suppliers
  • Maintain and improve product documentation including drawings, specifications, and BOMs
  • Work cross‑functionally with quality, electrical engineering, operations, and product teams to prioritize and resolve product issues
  • Hone your engineering expertise in a dynamic environment focused on continuous improvement and product excellence
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 7 years of product design or sustaining engineering experience, preferably in consumer electronics or electro‑mechanical devices
  • Demonstrated experience in sustaining engineering: ECOs, RCAs, CAPAs, and field failure analysis (80%+ of role)
  • Proficiency with Creo or similar 3D CAD software
  • Knowledge in the design and failure modes of plastic injection‑molded, stamped metal, die‑cast, and machined parts
  • Familiarity with adhesives, bonded joint design, and their failure modes in fielded products
  • Experience with dust/water ingress protection standards (IP ratings) and sustaining waterproof designs
  • Experience with PCB/PCBA, flex circuit, and electro‑mechanical integration in production environments
  • Strong DFM/DFA skills with emphasis on tolerance management and high‑volume manufacturing constraints
  • Experience working within DFMEA and PFMEA processes to assess and mitigate product risks
  • Familiarity with GD&T and ability to interpret and update engineering drawings
  • Effective communication and strong cross‑functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to balance competing priorities: quality, cost, schedule, and customer impact
Benefits that Benefit You
  • Competitive salary, bonus, RSUs, and 401(k) with employer match
  • Discretionary paid time off
  • Paid parental leave for all
  • Medical, Dental, Vision plans
  • Fitness programs
