Seeking an experienced Area Lead – Civil & Geotechnical Engineering to join a major copper mining development project in Arizona. This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for leading all civil, geotechnical, tailings, and earthworks engineering activities within an assigned project area. Acting as the Owner’s technical representative, you will provide engineering oversight from feasibility through construction and commissioning, ensuring designs are safe, practical, cost-effective, and fully integrated within an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all civil, geotechnical, tailings, and earthworks engineering activities across the assigned project area
  • Act as the Owner's technical representative, ensuring engineering solutions meet project objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry standards
  • Oversee the design and review of tailings facilities, site grading, drainage systems, roads, foundations, utilities, water management infrastructure, and earthworks
  • Review and approve geotechnical investigations, foundation recommendations, slope stability assessments, ground improvement solutions, excavation support systems, and seismic design parameters
  • Coordinate civil and geotechnical engineering inputs across process, structural, mechanical, electrical, mining, tailings, and construction teams
  • Manage engineering consultants and contractors, ensuring technical quality, schedule, budget, and compliance with project requirements
  • Lead technical workshops, multidisciplinary design reviews, constructability reviews, HAZOPs, and engineering risk assessments
  • Provide technical support during construction, including RFIs, field changes, non-conformance reports, and issue resolution
  • Support engineering planning, project controls, cost forecasting, risk management, and change control processes
  • Promote strong safety leadership while ensuring designs meet health, environmental, sustainability, and quality objectives
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of engineering experience within mining, heavy industrial, infrastructure, or major capital projects
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong background managing engineering consultants and technical contractors
  • Extensive experience in large-scale earthworks, civil infrastructure, and geotechnical engineering
  • Experience supporting construction, field execution, and resolving technical site issues
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards, regulatory requirements, permitting, and engineering risk management
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across multidisciplinary project teams
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to work across office and project site environments
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience working on EPCM, EPC, or Owner's project teams
  • Experience delivering major mining or large-scale industrial capital projects
  • Strong knowledge of tailings storage facilities, waste rock facilities, and water management infrastructure
  • Experience working within Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) or collaborative project delivery models
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary design integration throughout feasibility, detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration or eligibility is advantageous
