The Controller will provide strategic and operational leadership over the company’s accounting and
financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and transparency across all service lines.
Based in the Peoria office, this role partners closely with ownership and operational leadership to deliver timely financial reporting, disciplined job costing, and strong cash and control management. The ideal candidate brings proven Controller-level experience within a job-costed environment—such aslandscaping or construction trades—and demonstrates advanced proficiency in Quick Books Online and Aspire, along with a process-driven, ownership-minded approach to financial stewardship.
- Own the monthly close process and produce accurate, timely financial statements such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow.
- Maintain the general ledger, ensure proper coding and classing, along with reconciling all key accounts.
- Manage Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable workflows, including vendor relationships, customer billing, collections, and credit processes.
- Ensure payroll accounting is accurate (Coordination with Payroll and Human Resources is required).
- Maintain and improve job costing and margin tracking across divisions, including maintenance/service and project-based work.
- Partner with operations to track production, labor allocation, materials, and profitability.
- Build and maintain dashboards and reporting systems in Aspire and Quickbooks for leadership and maintain visibility.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash planning.
- Maintain and optimize Aspire and Quickbooks workflows (syncs, maps, codes).
- Implement and strengthen internal controls, approvals, and documentation standards.
- Create Standard Operating Procedures and train administration and operational leaders on financial workflows as needed.
- Coordinate with Certified Public Accountants & tax firm for year-end close, tax filings, and compliance items.
- Manage insurance audits, vendor documentation, and various reporting needs.
- Support financing, equipment schedules, and lender reporting if required.
- Work well within a diverse and inclusive workplace, demonstrating flexibility and strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM software (Salesforce, Hub Spot, or equivalent).
- High integrity, confidentiality, and ownership mentality.
- Excellent reconciliation, reporting, and process-building skills.
- Strong understanding of job costing, revenue recognition/ work in progress concepts (as applicable), and cost controls.

- Experience in multi-division or multi-entity environments.
- Valid Driver's License (Required):
The role may involve occasional travel to client sites, trade shows, or events, requiring a valid driver's license. - At least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
- Excellent reconciliation, reporting, and process-building skills
- Background in landscape, irrigation, arbor, construction trades, or similar job-costed
- High proficiency with Quick Books Online (QBO).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Working proficiency with Aspire (Strongly preferred).
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift and transport materials up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move for extended periods.
- Ability to move between different areas of the office to collaborate with colleagues and access
- Clear verbal communication to interact with clients, team members, and other departments.
- Manual dexterity for handling office equipment such as computers, keyboards, and telephones
