.
Reporting directly to the President of Development, the Finance Director, LIHTC will serve as our client's subject-matter expert across all Low-Income Housing Tax Credit activity — leading underwriting, financing, tax credit applications, and closings, and guiding projects from initial feasibility through long-term operations. This is a rare opportunity to help stand up a brand-new affordable housing division at a firm with more than 75 years of execution, a discretionary private equity platform, and deep in-house resources behind it — shaping the standards, strategy, and team from the ground up.
This is a hybrid role headquartered in Scottsdale, with roughly one day per week on-site; well-qualified remote candidates may be considered.
What you'll do- Serve as the firm's subject-matter expert for all LIHTC activity, guiding project teams from initial feasibility through closing and long-term operations
- Evaluate project feasibility and develop financing strategies — structuring and negotiating tax credit equity, permanent debt, tax-exempt bond financing, and public subsidy sources, and overseeing LIHTC and related funding applications to maximize feasibility and returns
- Serve as the primary internal resource on state Qualified Allocation Plans (QAPs), housing agency requirements, and LIHTC regulations — monitoring regulatory change and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local program requirements
- Analyze project risks and coordinate with housing finance agencies, lenders, investors, consultants, and legal counsel throughout the development process
- Partner with development and construction teams to maintain financing and tax credit compliance, manage lender, equity, and agency reporting during construction, and coordinate placed-in-service documentation and IRS Form 8609 preparation
- Support Asset Management with ongoing LIHTC compliance, inform refinancing, resyndication, and disposition planning, and develop the firm's LIHTC standards, templates, and best practices
- A proven track record capitalizing 4% tax-exempt bond deals — ideally across Colorado, Texas, and Arizona
- Deep, hands-on LIHTC expertise spanning underwriting, closings, and the full financing stack — tax credit equity, permanent debt, tax-exempt bond, and public subsidy structuring
- Fluency in state QAPs, housing finance agency requirements, and federal, state, and local affordable housing compliance
- A track record coordinating agencies, lenders, investors, consultants, and legal counsel through complex closings
- Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the presence to serve as a trusted internal expert
- The initiative and ownership to help build a new division from the ground up
