Probation officers provide casework services to probationers at the direction of the Superior Court under the provisions of evidence-based practices and consistent with the Arizona Code of Judicial Administration (ACJA). The duties include supervising caseloads, meeting probationers at their homes or workplaces, conducting interviews and investigations, evaluating progress, performing searches, and making arrests. Since probationers are convicted felons, felony adjudicated delinquents, or persons with domestic violence convictions, these duties expose officers to risks of assault.

As a result, this position is safety-sensitive, requiring proficiency in defensive tactics as per ACJA standards.

The position will be open until filled, with initial review beginning Monday, July 5, 2022. Preference will be given to Arizona Certified Probation Officers.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents, possess a bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences or related fields from an accredited institution, be at least 21 years old, and pass a comprehensive background check including fingerprinting, criminal history, DCS check, driving records, psychological evaluation, polygraph, and drug screening.

Successful candidates must complete a 40-hour Defensive Tactics Training Academy within 120 days of employment, demonstrate proficiency in defensive tactics, and complete annual refresher training. Additional requirements include obtaining defensive driving, first aid/CPR certifications within 60 days, and completing the Probation Certification Academy and Intensive Probation Institute within 12 months if assigned.

Special Job Requirements

• Valid driver's license at start and throughout employment.
• Acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.
• If armed, pass a 40-hour Firearms Academy and maintain annual recertification.
• Complete defensive driving and first aid/CPR within 60 days and maintain certifications.
• Participate in annual training mandated by COJET.
• Be available for emergency callouts and work extended hours during disasters or security breaches. Accommodations will be discussed with supervisors.
