About the Company

This privately held insurance group is one of the largest in the U.S., offering both admitted and non-admitted property-casualty coverage nationwide. With a dual-division structure serving small businesses and specialized mid-market firms, the organization combines underwriting precision with national reach. Backed by A-rated carriers and a producer-driven model, it provides a stable, scalable platform for professionals seeking impact and growth.

About the Role:

This senior-level underwriting role is responsible for developing and managing a profitable book of commercial primary casualty business. The underwriter will evaluate new and renewal submissions, determine pricing and coverage terms, and maintain strong relationships with wholesale producers across assigned territories. Success in this role requires sound judgment, technical expertise, and the ability to leverage advanced underwriting tools and predictive analytics.

The position also plays a key role in mentoring team members, contributing to market strategy, and ensuring compliance with underwriting and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide market feedback to support product development and competitive positioning
  • Monitor performance of newly bound accounts and adjust underwriting strategy as needed
  • Support training and mentoring of junior underwriters and new team members
  • Review in-force accounts to determine appropriate renewal actions, pricing, and coverage adjustments
  • Prepare renewal quotes in advance to support producer planning and retention efforts
  • Maintain proactive communication with producers regarding renewal expectations and potential changes
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements related to renewals and non-renewals
  • Apply sound judgment and technical expertise to all underwriting decisions
  • Meet production, profitability, and marketing goals for assigned portfolio
  • Stay informed on industry trends, competitor activity, and claims developments
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for targeted business classes within underwriting appetite
  • Travel regularly to meet with producers and reinforce market presence
  • Collaborate with peers on underwriting and marketing initiatives
  • Train, coach, and mentor less experienced underwriters and support staff

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8–10 years of commercial primary casualty underwriting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in insurance, risk management, economics, actuarial science, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of primary casualty lines, classifications, pricing, and coverage structures
  • Familiarity with wholesale distribution systems and producer dynamics

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make informed, calculated risk decisions
  • Strong problem-solving, reasoning, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
