Supervise the activities of the Underwriting Technical Assistance and/or AMS Assistance. Coordinate their activities with internal and outside personnel. Provide continuous training, coaching, and feedback to the Underwriting Technical Assistants and/or AMS Assistance. Create business partnerships with inside underwriting teams. Operates within the letter of authority for referral underwriting. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

• Supervises, coordinates, and monitors activities and results of an underwriting unit that includes multiple states or multiple teams and an overall premium volume typically in excess of $60m. Ensures accurate, quality work while at the same time maintaining high production standards.
• Schedules, prioritizes and distributes workflow of unit to ensure work is done in a timely fashion and all deadlines are met. Identifies and evaluates underwriting trends and recommends strategies to improve performance.
• Provides guidance to agents and policyholders and provides technical guidance and expertise to underwriters. Acts as a liaison with other supervisors, branches and corporate departments with whom their unit interacts. Conducts agency visits as required by company standards.
• Recommends procedural changes and plans, organizes and implements these changes. Keeps current on all changes effecting unit's work production and on changes within the insurance industry.
• Responsible for the quality, profitability, and production of the team per budget.
• Develops and utilizes management reports to assist in monitoring team and individual underwriter results.
• Oversees activities, workflows, and productivity to ensure compliance with company, consumer, and technical standards.
• Establishes procedures and controls to ensure the accomplishment of service standards for the Underwriting support team.
• Oversees training and development of staff. Evaluates and gives guidance to staff on an on-going basis as to their abilities and duties and makes personnel recommendations to ensure proper and optimum use of personnel.
• Demonstrates hands‑on expertise and models best practices for the team.

• List the knowledge, qualifications, and requirements necessary to perform the job.
• Broad underwriting technical background
• Demonstrated ability to balance supervisory responsibilities and development
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Good analytical skills
• Proficient with Word, Excel & Outlook

• College degree preferred.
• 7+ years underwriting experience

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
