About the RoleWe’re seeking a dynamic Vice President of Operations to lead the next phase of growth and operational excellence across our distribution center network. This newly created, high-impact role blends hands‑on leadership with strategic vision to deliver meaningful, company‑wide results.
It isn’t just about running buildings, it’s about shaping an innovative, agile operations engine that empowers our people, scales with precision, and delights customers at every turn. The ideal candidate is a fair, deeply engaged leader who earns trust on the floor and drives lasting improvements in retention, productivity, and accuracy across the network.
You’ll oversee a growing network of four distribution centers and 1,700+ associates. Reporting to the SVP of Operations and partnering closely with the COO and senior leadership team, this role is central to unlocking thred
UP’s next decade of operational scale and transformation.
Success in this role is hitting for this cycle amid the cacophony of priorities present in a complex, fast moving business: high performance as measured in unit cost, high retention as measured by annual turnover, empowering company growth with an operations output that can be dialed up or down as necessary, and a process whose accuracy is viewed as a tailwind to customer retention.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Operations Leadership – Lead operational performance across four distribution centers, with direct oversight of site and network leaders; achieve year‑over‑year improvement in retention, unit cost and product accuracy.
- Scale the network to 2,100+ hourly team members by the end of 2026.
- Hold shared P&L ownership for the DC network alongside the SVP of Operations.
- Build durable operational muscle by codifying scalable processes resulting in 90% adherence to more stringent accuracy and SLA metrics.
- Think systemically to optimize end‑to‑end operations and drive consistent, fair, and scalable practices across all sites.
- Drive sustainable improvements in retention through data‑driven strategies with a target of cutting annual turnover by 50% and bringing 45‑day retention to 81%.
- Be present in all buildings – walk the floor on all shifts during DC visits, listen to operators, and lead with humility.
- Model and scale a culture rooted in fairness, equity, and high performance where clarity, consistency, and care shape how we lead, collaborate, and make decisions.
- Build that culture daily by developing future leaders evidenced by documented promotion paths powered by evaluation rubrics and engagement survey scores.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Build trusted cross‑functional partnerships across the org (e.g., Finance, Product, and Marketing) measured by delivery of cross‑functional OKRs like unit cost, refund rates, and buyer repeat rates.
