Under the general supervision of Charge Nurse and Clinical Director, this position provides nursing care to ensure the safety of the patient during transfer and stay in the surgical suite/procedure room.

• Direct and assist in carrying out safe aseptic techniques and procedures.
• Supervise and direct the activities of surgical technicians and non‑professional personnel as necessary.
• Perform assessments of patients for specific nursing care needed.
• Check room for needed supplies and prepare room for specific patient and procedure.
• Assist in transporting patients to operating room/procedure room and check patient record for appropriate pre‑op preparation and procedures (e.g., lab, x‑ray, appropriate permits).
• Perform clean up following procedures, as well as general housekeeping duties.
• Set up operating room/procedure room with all necessary equipment and supplies.
• Participate in on‑going committees and other educational programs to enhance patient care.
• Review physicians’ preference cards and update as needed.
• Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts and document as applicable.
• Maintain sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.
• Have general familiarity with medical terminology related to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room.
• Communicate effectively and promote departmental relationships to ensure continuity of care.
• Act efficiently as a member of the surgical/procedural team.
• Handle instruments correctly and check for cleanliness and proper working condition.

• Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing.
• Active RN license in the state.
• BLS, ACLS, or PALS as required by the center.
• Minimum of 1 year experience working as a Circulator.
• Ability to make decisions based on nursing judgment.
