Job Summary
The RN's practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served. The RN records patients' medical history and symptoms, performs diagnostic tests and analyzes results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and assists with patient follow‑up and rehabilitation.
The RN establishes or contributes to a care plan, including administering medications with careful dosage checks, managing IV lines, providing therapies and treatments, observing and recording patient responses, and consulting with physicians and other clinicians.
The RN teaches patients and families how to manage illnesses or injuries, explains post‑treatment and home care needs, and provides guidance on diet, nutrition, exercise, and self‑medication. The RN directs licensed practical nurses and nursing aides, delegates responsibilities, and mentors new staff and students. The RN supports continuous clinical knowledge development, precepts new hires, and seeks to complete competency tasks.
Essential Functions- Collect health data systematically, prioritize collection based on the patient’s condition, and involve the family.
- Analyze assessment data, identify nursing diagnoses, and develop, implement, evaluate, and revise family‑centered, evidence‑based care plans.
- Identify individualized expected outcomes, implement interventions, and initiate treatments, medications, and emergency measures per standing orders and policies.
- Provide nursing care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social‑cultural needs using a family‑centered approach.
- Evaluate progress toward outcomes, document observations and interventions, and assess the effectiveness of the care plan.
- Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice, evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, and integrate ethical principles.
- Enhance knowledge of cultural and diversity needs for specific populations and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in professional development, mentoring, and research activities to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.
- Support evidence‑based changes to practice and facilitate adoption and adaptation of new approaches.
- Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care, utilizing resources efficiently.
All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have 5 or more years of RN experience (direct or indirect) at the time of hire. Requirement:
Associates or Diploma in Nursing. All staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients refer to the stroke‑specific education addendum prior to start.
Required:
Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN).
- More than 10 months in a med‑surg or acute specialty setting.
- At least 1 year of RN experience for all float positions.
Required:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; unit‑specific certification as required by specialty area. Registered Nurse (RN) license in Arizona (state or compact). National certification for unit‑specific patient population. Preferred certifications may also apply.
