Tanque Verde USD is seeking a Groundskeeper/Maintenance Technician. This 12 month position is full-time and benefit eligible. This position typically reports to building Principals and to the Director of Operations.
Example of Duties- Directs the scheduling and work of Grounds contractor
- Develops and implements plans for Ornamental and Turf pest management on district fields.
- Ensures the operation of irrigation systems and repairs or coordinates the repair of systems as needed
- Purchases, inventories and maintains proper storage of pest control chemicals and equipment.
- Responsible for district compliance with application logs and records as required by state and federal regulations.
- Maintains calendars for applications and coordinates with athletic directors, principals and groundskeepers to ensure smooth operation of field spaces as integral parts of school facilities.
- Seasonally works with the Maintenance department as grounds tasks decrease. Maintenance work includes plumbing, electrical, light construction and other duties as assigned.
- Ensures the timely and proper mowing and trimming of turf areas including play fields, athletic fields and courtyards.
- Performs seasonal transitions of turf areas to weather tolerant turf species. (over seeding)
- Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of equipment, tools, procedures of grounds construction and care.
- Knowledge of fertilizers, soil amendments and equipment used in grounds care and gardening.
- Skill in operating grounds maintenance and grounds construction equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to problem-solve and apply good judgment and to know when to ask for help from others.
- Ability to accept direction and modify daily work plans as directed.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more; to stand and/or walk for long periods of time; to bend and stoop.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); OR
- One to three months related experience and/or training;
- May require a current Arizona Type D driver's license;
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education as approved by the district.
