Position Highlights
The Center for Innovation in Brain Science (CIBS) at the University of Arizona is seeking a Laboratory Coordinator II to support research projects focused on Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. CIBS integrates the biotech ecosystem into an academic setting to address neurodegenerative diseases, ranging from preclinical studies to active clinical trials.
Duties & Responsibilities- Assist with orientation and training of staff, students, visiting scientists, and new lab members in application and use of scientific equipment.
- Coordinate all administrative aspects of the lab, including ordering and procurement of equipment, inventory and maintenance, disposal, and ensuring compliance requirements are met.
- Under the PI’s direction, coordinate implementation and maintenance of compliance with SOPs and other regulations to ensure laboratory safety, efficiency, and quality control.
- Provide support in maintaining multiple ticket systems for requests (Facilities management, IT, and computer management of all CIBS workstations).
- Maintain inventory and check‑out of cryogenically stored cells, surplus materials, and U of A financial asset audit.
- Support and maintain research experiments/methods under the direction of principal investigators, including animal research protocols, processing of biological specimens, performing laboratory assays, and organizing data collection and documentation.
- Maintain research facilities and equipment, and coordinate outsourcing to service vendors as needed.
- Coordinate and perform preventative maintenance, assist with service contracts, and make repairs as needed.
- Coordinate storage and shipment of biological specimens and chemical substances, ensuring appropriate handling per regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate submission of IACUC, Chemical, and Biosafety protocols and maintain laboratory compliance with all University regulatory requirements.
- Assist with annual RLSS and bi‑annual IACUC inspections under the direction of the PI.
- Assist in meeting education, certification, and training requirements for all laboratory personnel under the PI’s direction.
- Assist laboratory members with performance of basic laboratory techniques.
Skills and Abilities
- Organization and data collection skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional-level experience.
- Three years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience with basic molecular biology techniques.
- Experience with Animal Care Protocols.
