Plumber, Building Maintenance, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, repairs, installs and maintains water, gas, irrigation and sewer lines, water heaters, toilets, dishwashers, sinks and other plumbing pipes and fixtures and appurtenances. Coordinates activities of other trade shops, building maintenance workers and subcontractors.

- Repairs, installs and maintains plumbing pipes, lines and fixtures, such as water, sewer, irrigation and gas lines, faucets, toilets, sinks, lavatories, drinking fountains, water heaters, grease traps, booster pumps, etc. Ensures all work is in accordance with plumbing codes and building specifications.
- Estimates costs, time and materials and needed necessary parts for capital projects.
- Troubleshoots plumbing leaks, breaks and stoppages. Determines methods of repair and materials needed within established expenditure limits.
- Installs plumbing related fixtures such as new sink cabinets and expansion tanks on closed plumbing systems.
- Performs operational maintenance and repair of sewage lift stations and associated equipment, advising supervisor of abnormal conditions with equipment or controls.
- Provides augmentation to others in performing maintenance or repairs to the waste water treatment plant.
- Performs operational maintenance and operation of multiple potable groundwater wells; operational maintenance to include: chlorination, testing, sampling, lubrication and advising supervision of abnormal conditions.
- Provides hands on technical and professional guidance to building maintenance workers possessing the aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Operates machinery and equipment as needed to complete plumbing projects, such as backhoes, drain machines, trenchers, jackhammers, portable dewatering pumps, welders and other special equipment.
- Coordinates plumbing activities with site personnel, outside agencies, contractors and other tradesmen as needed.
- Orders materials and parts as needed.
- Reads blueprints and performs Blue Staking as needed.
- May consult with engineers, architects, and designers on building renovations.
- Operates hand and power tools as needed in the performance of duties.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of codes, methods, standard industry practices and related safety regulations, such as OSHA.
- Knowledge of all types of plumbing methods, materials and related tools and plumbing related equipment and their operation.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
- Ability to handle emergencies.
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students and the public.
- Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 5 years experience as a commercial plumber
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License
- Class 2 Operator’s License for Water and Wastewater Treatment
- Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to bend, stoop, climb, kneel, sit and walk. Hand excavation and working in confined spaces may be required. The employee may be required to lift or move up to 100 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENTThis position works indoors, and outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to moisture, dust, noise and fumes. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy l have contact with students, staff, and the public.
