This role acts as a project leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers, determining technical tasks, and improving existing structures and processes. It involves making technical decisions, collaborating with management to set standards, and representing the company to external partners.

• Determines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow.
• Ensures actions achieve customer, operational, program, or service objectives.

• 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Staff Engineer – Cloud/Dev Ops Engineer

• Contribute to the strategic direction of one or more domains, leading major initiatives.
• Act as a hands‑on contributor while leading by example.
• Mentor senior and junior engineers.
• Operate with a high degree of independence while being accountable for results.
• Support the scalability and reliability of Venmo’s AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Guide application teams in building and strengthening cloud competencies.
• Lead major initiatives end‑to‑end, defining design, identifying stakeholders, navigating risks, coordinating work, implementing solutions, and ensuring delivery.
• Help engineers develop and deliver code more efficiently and securely.
• Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix, document problems, and implement preventive measures.
• Coach and mentor engineers on design principles and best practices.
• Recognize, validate, and evangelize emerging technologies and architectures that align with business objectives.
• Improve engineering teams’ production operations and build automation tools.
• Maintain infrastructure and application configuration as code.
• Enhance the quality, reliability, and stability of infrastructure and operations.

AWS, EKS, Docker, Git Hub Enterprise, CDK, Terraform, Git Hub Actions, Datadog, Bash, Python, Go

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in software development or a related field.
• 5+ years operating distributed applications 24/7 in a Cloud, Dev Ops, or SRE environment.
• 2+ years of technical leadership experience.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS (or similar cloud), programming in Python, Java, Bash, or Go.
• Experience with containers and orchestration:
  Docker, Kubernetes.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical issues to non‑technical audiences.
