Software Development Engineer in Test

This role is not eligible for sponsorship and is a four-day on-site hybrid position at our North Scottsdale office.

Choice Hotels, one of the world’s largest lodging franchisors, is looking for an SDET2 (Software Development Engineer in Test II) to join our Test Engineering team. The team ensures the quality of the products we develop and deliver, focusing on enhancing guest experience, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency.

• Write, maintain, and develop tests for API, web, and/or mobile-based applications.
• Prioritize work using issue tracking and backlogs.
• Work with business to understand functionality, translate requirements into test scenarios, create test cases, review with stakeholders, execute tests, conduct demos, and address feedback.
• Document test steps, assertions, and dependent test data to ensure maintainability and repeatability.
• Attend stand‑ups and sprint ceremonies as part of an agile development team.
• Develop an automatable test plan with developers and QA teammates; automate tests to meet user‑story acceptance criteria.
• Own and maintain test environments and test data, integrating provisioning and data management into CI/CD pipelines.
• Create realistic test data scenarios covering broad use cases and edge conditions.
• Execute and analyze automated test results, perform root‑cause analysis, document reproduction steps, and write defects. Automate defect‑related tests after fixes.
• Contribute to peer code review, work within existing automation frameworks, enhance framework functionality, and use VCS, static linting, and formatting tools for consistency.
• Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

• Minimum 3 years of software test engineering experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Experience testing API and UI applications.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud environments (preferred).
• Experience with MySQL and writing SQL queries for testing.
  
  Experience with Linux command-line interface (CLI) (preferred).
• Strong proficiency in Java or another object‑oriented programming language.
• Knowledge of dependency management.
• Knowledge of software orchestration tools such as Jenkins or Harness.
• Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
• Strong time management and ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Self‑learners who desire to grow technical knowledge and skill sets.

This is an individual contributor role that reports to the Manager of Test Engineering. You will work with 5–6 peer teammates and collaborate with cross‑functional departments regularly.
